Mark change your camera for god sake man.!! 😉

    Who's Mark ?

Is there an issue (generally) with the photos? Look OK / clear to me. I can always send more detailed / higher-res photos to anybody interested, but not sure if required in the OP. I've seen a lot worse TBH; or none at all.

  2. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alembic-5-Sting-Bass-Guitar/392674152187

Queried this one with Alembic and got the following (essentially - edited slightly):-

"Wow - this is a weird one. The omega carving was not original on this bass - it's pretty clear it doesn't use the same roundover as we do and the transition from the back to the edge is quite harsh. The tips of the omega are broken off - this may have happened when they made this modification or afterwards. There are chunky and less than smooth transitions which are just things that would never leave here in the current condition. It doesn't look like any shape in our library..We don't make batches of anything!* And we don't track any particular model build*. I couldn't tell you haw many Persuaders we made in a given year or cumulatively. Aside from a few limited edition models, it's simply notsomething we tally. The neck is Maple and Purpleheart. Fingerboard is Ebony. The body wood is Mahogany. The top is actually Walnut (as is the peghead front certainly look more like Walnut)*

After all that, decided to run the number through the Alembic Club. Lo and behold! Answers to questions and suspicions confirmed:

*[ seller: ... "Alembic have told me this was a batch of 400 made to this spec of 5 sting active basses. Using the Cocabolla wood...."]

  3. Seller also listed this which ended 23 Jan with a 'winning bid' of £1420; it was then immediately relisted at £1500 on 24th, then removed as no longer available; and has now been listed again (under a 'new' auction) at £1499 :-

.... I'm not sure if this IS a genuine JD / Sn Custom FL4 (?), but I did ask re. the sale/relists and was told :-

New message from: robynjp (491Turquoise Star)

I wish it had ! I had 3 items all bid on , won and then can’t get in touch with buyer

I would accept £1400 but I’d preferred outside of eBay fees , you can have my address , phone etc etc Iv got quite a bit of things to get rid of and so far Ebay has bee painful

  4. Warmoth (USA) Alder body with exceptional 5A Quilted maple top. Warmoth Birdseye maple neck

EMG soapbars and EMG preamp. (volume-neck/volume-bridge/stacked bass + treble EQ)

Schaller tuners and ABM bridge. Handbuilt Custom construction using above/quality parts throughout by Richard Dijkman (Netherlands, Luthier).

Plays and sounds great! Condition is very good (photos) although there are some marks/dings to the back / rear-edge of the bass; this has been addressed with oil/wax. Front/neck are fine thoughout. New price on the bass would have been in excess of €2k.

(link shows some nice 'inner' shots of the bass)

No case/bag but could find something if required. I can also arrange Courier at cost and 'split' bass if preferred.

  8. Thanks for the details above EBS-f; always good to have some further  provenance re. an instrument. I can confirm that it is a 34" scale and have added this and other specs/weight to the OP. The estimated date came from Bernie but he wasn't certain. My first Spitfire (4-string) was bought directly from the old Peall Road, Croydon, base - not managed to visit GB/BG since he moved down to Brighton (when was that?). I think it was the summer of '96, and the bass (plus a 5 string Spitfire) appeared in a review later that year. Thanks also for the additional links etc.

    What year was it made.?

I believe that this is one of the older spitfires

The bass was made for Neil Simpson who played with Roy Wood for years*. BG thinks c. 2008. Not sure re.it being an  'older' Spitfire as not sure how long they've been made (?... IIRC I first played one in the mid 90's?). This video (24th Dec. 2015) 'features' the bass, so could be a bit more recent:-

  10. TAO Custom Jazz Bass + (Moses Graphite USA). Incl. Courier. Tao Jazz Bass Guitar. Unique, custom build. Hand crafted body made of lightweight swamp ash with a massive spalted maple drop top. The full graphite neck comes from Moses Graphite USA. Great components: Seymour Duncan hot stack pickups, Gotoh tuners , ABM bellbrass bridge. Incredible sustain and tone + playability. 2006 instrument (c. €2400) TAO GUITARS  s.p.r.l rue saint-bernard,137 1060 Bruxelles BELGIUM TVA: BE 0831.075.214 phone: 0032/25388131 taoguitars DOT com (check them out!). C/w Courier and Levys (branded) bass gig-bag (or hard case) Were I keeping the bass, would be looking to install an upgrade passive or active-passive circuit (east, etc.) - current unit is basic + the VVT knobs are different to a standard Fender type bell plate (so the slot-in types won't work - thought about that myself). Includes Courier. Currently WITHDRAWN.

That is a lovely looking axe.

Thanks / agreed chaps. Something or a rarity as I think KE mainly producing high-end, handbuilt acoustics and occasional electric guitars.
