  1. Bought some pickups from Keith recently. Totally excellent deal throughout - great/prompt communication and he sent them even before my bank had initially managed to mess-up the transfer... (sorted later, of course). Highly recommened - pickups really well packaged and arrived quickly.

I meant my comment just to be in good manner. I know you are a good seller, just made sure that everybody knows what on sale here.

Yeah, specs are almost the same. ESP Standard line is built in patches in small "factory".  "original series" basses are each handbuilt invidually.

the pricing is crazy, when I worked at the music store we had alot conversations about this then...

SUPERB quality modern jazz basses, I had mine for years... regret selling it... Good luck with the sale!

That's fine Typyhpus - thanks for some really useful info & links. Genuinely appreciated.

I guess they are (or were) mirroring the example of e.g. Fender / 'Custom Shop' pricing cf. more 'standard' models.

  4. Thanks - hadn't thought of that (doesn't Jon Shuker make JJ B's basses these days?... maybe he'll let me have a logo/decal?!) - but obviouslty a man of great taste (both of you, that is) - I think the BLK/Map combination is one of the best P-bass options. However, it's not getting any/much use so dropping the price:-

    £345 (incl. Courier) !!

Sorry to be party-pooper but this is different model. Yours is Amaze-DLX 5 NTL model that is "Standard line" of japanese ESP-basses. (now discontinued line, now called E-II)

and the one on that link is "ESP Original" series that are ALOT more expensive. I know this cos I used to work at music store that brought these basses to Finland. I even had Amaze-DLX 5 myself! :)

DLX models were 2200euros new and Originals were about 4-5000euros :)

Thanks for the additional info (.... I think) Typhus. I'm sure you're correct in what you say/know (I did try the usual online research re. these instruments but found nothing significant) - but could you recall/outline the spec. differences which account for the massive price difference. I've looked through the 'japanretro' photos/models and everything - other than the pickups - appears to be exactly the same

Sir, here I am again. Very sorry, my bad:

Your instrument is a Sonic Hammer. A blue one can be seen here:

    https://www.talkbass.com/threads/modulus-mob.313365/page-400

It is an upgrade to M-92 Sweet Spot, that was introduced in 1992. M-92 SS (4/5/6-string) had a pickguard over alder body and an EMG. Sonic Hammer is equipped with bartolini and custom top. SH is the predecessor of the Flea / Funk Unlimited. Rare beast, I did not remember this model.

Truss rod was taken into production in 1997/1998, so there are some basses with truss rod already with serial starting 97xxxx.

There are three neck options for a fiver: 17 / 19 / 21.5 mm string spacing. Four has 19 and six has 17 mm string spacing @ bridge.

Thanks yet again itu - great information/research!!... Much appreciated !

  7. Black/maple Precision Bass put together using brand new high quality parts (and care). Specifications: Neck: generic Maple Jazz Neck (nice grain/finish); Body: Italian Made Alder Body; Tuners: Black, 'Fender' (style) Tuners - slightly heavier duty; Scratchplate: Single Ply (Black); Bridge: high-mass/quality (Black); Pickup: Fender Pure Vintage 63 Precision, alnico 5 magnet, flush-mount pole-pieces; Electrics: ObsidianWire Traditional Vintage Pro-Wired Solderless. Reduced to: £345 (incl. Courier!)

I have to come back: this bass has a bartolini and quilted top, that were not available in the basic SS version (EMG, plain alder). This is probably a custom model. They started SS probably in 1992; the serial number is in the neck, close to the tuners. Two first digits tell the manufacturing year, like 99xxxx = 1999. The logo is the newest and it was changed from MODULUS GRAPHITE in the late 1990's.

Thanks itu, that's most helpful. Serial is 97**** so it appears the bass is a custom 1997 with upgrade quilt and Bart'.

There are lots of sounds accessible from the VSC and the original diagram/'manual (instruction) is included The Guitar is in Mint Condition, Comes with Bespoke high-end case. Includes 24h Courier.

    Is this Q5 or Q5W?

Hey what’s the string spacing on this?

I think the 'W' is for a 'Wide(r); bridge? Not sure if that option existed when this bass was made (?). Current setting is 17.5mm but, as the bridge saddles are adjustable, could be slightly wider (or narrower). I'll try to add a Bridge close-up to the photos. Nut is 47.5mm (string spacing 10mm) and the neck @ F24 is 70.5mm.

  12. Modulus (USA) Quantum 'SS' 5-string bass. The 'SS' refers to Modulus concept of producing a new (at the time) Single pickup instrument, with that p/up being positioned in the optimum ' sweet-spot' for tone. Qute a rare instrument / great qaulity, playability and sound. Quilt over Alder with translucent dark-rose finish. Simple volume + Bass/Treble (+/-) Bartolini EQ (9v) & bartolini SB pickup. 9.3lbs, 35"scale, 1&7/8" nut ETS adjustable Bridge. Comes c/w excellent/quality gig-bag OR hardcase (option), Courier etc. Further info: Modulus Sonic Hammer  - is an upgrade to M-92 Sweet Spot, that was introduced in 1992. M-92 SS (4/5/6-string) had a pickguard over alder body and an EMG. Sonic Hammer is equipped with bartolini and custom top. SH is the predecessor of the Flea / Funk Unlimited. Rare instrument !
