  1. I had a V1 and for the life of me I could not dial it in to stop a really obvious dip and swell of the note when using high output pickups.

It was fine on a good old P bass, but on my EMG equipped basses - where I have the pickups about 1mm from the string when fretted at the last fret - it just couldn't cope at all.

  2. - Starting with 0.40 maximum on the G - They have several sets like that.

    - Hex core or round core? - Depends on whether you like a more flexible feel

    - Roundwound is a must -  ok

    - I want a good slap sound on the B-string (for example Something Got Me Started - Simply Red & Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel) - All basses vary. It's as much about the bass as the string.

    - Nickel or Stainless? - Only you can decide that

    - Normal or taperwound? - DR does not have a lot of choice here

    - 120, 125, or 130 B-string? - Personal preference. The 5 string sets come as they come. If you want a different B then you'll have to buy a 4 string set and a separate B

You'll also have to check to see if the DR's speaking length is long enough for the 35.5 scale on the B. DR put those figures on their website.

Everything was digital in the 80s, then it was Titanium for a while, now it seems to be Quantum. There's even a housing estate being built near me called Quantum Fields. Whatever next, Quark Gardens?

Hopefully there will be a bar.

  4. My last gig was pretty much sitting (jazz) unless I was having to balance on 2inch square of stage.

For a more active band I think I'd want a chair that I could get up from when I felt good enough for it. If the set is planned in a fairly conventional way - first 3 tunes being high tempo, then next 2-3 a bit slower etc etc then I'd probably stand for the first ones, then sit down for a bit - maybe even up to the finale.

But that depends on the extent of injuries of course.

I moved to that kind of setup a few years back now and found a Synq1K0 which is a 1U shallow rack unit and ratings below.

    Audio : max. output channels2

Audio : Wrms 4Ω stereo, per channel 540

Audio : Wrms 8Ω stereo, per channel 300

    Audio : Wrms 8Ω bridge 1080

I have tried bridge mode a couple of times but usually have it in mono mode or stereo using only one channel.

The noise floor in my setup is really low and i generally have the power amp on or close to full and the pre-amp and bass levels to suit. Seems to give me a bigger fuller sound.

I also have a crown xls1502 which again is a shallow rack but 2U, and like the OP i use a Big Twin II as my main cab.

That is a beautiful set up! Lovely!

  6.  My last rack, many years ago.

2 Different preamps, each capable of blending effected with clean. Each of them feeding one side of the Yamaha power amp and then into a cab each. So I had 2 different drive and 2 different clean sounds on all the time.

The Ampeg and Black Bass Pod XT Pro were always in use. The red guitar Pod was a backup.

    It was very heavy!

Well, we finally got paid in the end. However, a few of the punters have refused to drink in there again.

There was no agreement about payment based on bar receipts as far as I know.

Still post it online to warn others.

Sweet Home Alabama. Monotonous drivel for toothless, dungaree wearing rednecks. I seriously considered playing the first round of it into a looper and then going for a few pints for the next half hour when I used to have to play it at every gig. Thankfully it's now been binned from the setlist for a good while.

I both love and hate that song.

But it did get to the point where I would introduce it using a cliche southern drawl accent, asking if anyone in the crowd was from Norfolk and planning to shag their sister that night.

  9. I have a Butterfly Daisy Rock and it’s fun but the balance is awful.

The Gretsch shorty is often heavy.

What about 32 scale? Ibanez Mezzo are a bargain used and have nice slim necks. Weights vary but can be found under 7.5lb.
