1.
Improving my fretless intonation by playing along with anything and everything thats on.
That's something I've recently been working on coincidentally. Any tips?
2.
Recently learned Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder, took a couple of days to get all the little embellishments on the main riff learned but it's really satisfying to play! I also learned Jamerson's bassline to Reach Out (I'll Be There) by The Four Tops, it's always been one of my favourites so it was a crime not knowing it until recently.
Get yerself a copy of standing in The Shadows of Motown. they're all in there. Except standing in the Shadows strangely???
3. If i didn't alraedy own one of these I'd rip your arm of for it they're great!
4.
"What's that all about then"... THIS!!!! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=gaoYu6jOoug
ABSOLUTELY! and ditto the Jon cleary band below.
5.
There's a rough guide to Fender bass action set-up here. http://www.fender.com/support/basses.php Pluck
I use the fender factory specs and find them just right for my jazz bass and Str****casters. Having spent years trying to get the "perfect set up" I now just adjust to these settings play the instrument and get used to them. Personally I've always preferred to play a little on the high side as far as action goes.
6.
If we ever did get our finger out and organise a Essex Beer/Bass Day, I'm sure Mike at the Bass Merchent would let us have the use of his Rehearsal Room !!! He may even put in some tasty amps for us to try out P.s, another Bass Player looking for a band !!
OH YES!!! Anyone else planning to go on the 29th march? we could hatch a cunning plan then.
7. Perhaps we can all meet up at the the forthcoming Bass Bash in Northants on 29th March?
8. Northants Venue good for me
9. as someone who suffers from "red light fever" ie when recording something I've played hundreds of times becomes a ten take job. I found this useful idea from Nathan east's DVD: When in the studio imagine you're playing live and when playing live imagine you're in the studio.
10. Great stuff. I've just rec orded KC with a couple of mates as a little side project. Great bass part but very challenging isn't it, I found the guitar solo section especially tough but got there in the end. Any Dan fans should go and see Nearly Dan at the jazz Cafe on sunday.
11. I couldn't make the last Northampton one last year due to a poorly dog at the vets that weekend! Would really like the opportunity to come this time.
12. So now we just have to decide on a convenient venue, date and who is up for a beer then?
13. Great Vid and very cool Chic bass playing Mr Bassbluestew. I'm sure that this will be a real gig getting asset for your band. Incidentally my previous band up until last year was called The Late Shift and we also male and female singers and did similar stuff to this!
lonestar you any kop cocker? if so a few lessons from yourself might be in order stavros. ill pay obviously.
I've been playing for years now and muddle along quite nicely! I'm not sure that I'm qualified to give anyone paid lessons though really. Happy to advise and help through basschat if I can add to the masses of good info already here. Have you looked in the Tutors database on this esteemed forum?
17. Notice the Location: Hertfordville! Is that near Manchesterford, Ambridge or Madeupshire? What a lemon
18.
Surprised Town Called Malice hasn't got a mention so far. Another great line is Oliver's Army by Elvis Costello. I'm not sure who the bassist is, but it really underpins the song. And has By The Way, RHCP been mentioned yet? And another +1 for JJ Burnel
We cover Oliver'sArmy in my band it's a nice bassline isn't it! The Attractions bass player is Bruce Thomas He's done some cracking bass parts on that whole Armed Forces album. Accidents will happen is one of my faves. a great player IMHO
19. Nights on broadway by Candi Statton (originally Bee Gees I think. not sure who played bass on it but it sounds very Crusaders'ish. Cheesy song but class playing.
20.
I was just up in Audley End the other day, the house was all decked out for Xmas, lots of seasonal produce etc, lovely stuff. Beautiful part of the world. Nice drive through Finchingfield, Great Bardfield etc.
It is a nice part of the world to live in. Moved here 18months ago from Cambridge my band mates are based in Chelmsford, Brentwood, Hornchurch and we rehearse in Chelmsford. gigging this Friday in Braintree (morgan owners club Xmas do). I propose that any interested local bassists might like to meet somewhere convenient in the New Year, if not for a bash then a pint and a moan. Mike
21. I'm in Saffron Walden. That's in Essex. Gigging around Essex and beyond always interested in a bit of depping too! Oops sorry Nig Would be up for an Essex/East Anglia/Cambs? bass bash.
22. Cor what a bunch of stunners! Ricky-tastic mate!
23.
That'd be great Mike! Unless you can scan it in or whatever? Don't want to put you to too much trouble... If you're sure that's cool though I'll PM you my details. Thanks! Tom
No problem at all. I don't have a scanner so send me you address and I'll post it.
