Cocteau Twins
Lovely stuff, but even if you could decipher the words... I have no idea.

I filed the fret ends up at the dusty end on mine too, it made a lot of difference. Fortunately my later model JJ 5 string was dead quiet on arrival and sounded great, however I recently fitted the full VTC replacement controls and preamp. Well worth it, I'd highly recommend the upgrade in terms of versatility of usable sounds and taming the hot preamp a little with the tone control. £145 from Bass direct well spent !

TC Spectracomp for simplicity and subtlety, with the option to get complicated if you want to in the edit settings

Hi all,
I'm looking at getting a 5er to round out the stable. Ideally I'm looking for something active but beyond that I'm fairly open to anything! I really like the look of the Warwick Rockbass stuff so hopefully that gives you an idea of the vibe I'm going for. I'd like to spend less than £1000.
Have at it!
Sadowsky Metro Express. made in the Warwick china factory I think

Decided against the cab and I think I’m 75% heading down this route. I’ll only be playing pubs for now so no need for the 810 ampeg rig quite yet 😂 this looks to have everything I need and I can stack it should I need a bigger sound which at the moment is very doubtful. Any thought would be appreciated
i have an earlier one of these which I happily used on it's own for years, in pubs and often in larger venues with lots of PA support. Then I added a 102p traveller and now I nearly always use them together. Plenty of headroom; I rarely have the master volume up more than a tad ( that's about a smidgen in metric!) and I just love the sound of my hybrid "4X10".

I had a FAL pa amp as my first bass amp
Worjked atreat for me although I was 15 at the time

Woolworths Audition 25w combo
FAL( 150w?) PA Aamp + huge " Custom made Orange type" 2x12 reflex cab that sounded about the right level close up, but could rearrange someone's digestive system 100 yards away.
HH VS Bass Amp with aforementioned cab. I had to give the cab up, much to my teenage angst, as it was damaging the roof of my Dad's VW beetle when moved around on the roof rack.
I had to downgrade to two 1x12's which were rubbish.
Borrowed Trace 250 head + 4x10 and 1x15 rig, for gigs as I got back into bass playing after a 15 year gap and a few lost years as a guitard.
Hartke HA2000 head Ashdown 4x!0 and 1x15 cabs
Harke HA500 plus above cabs
Markbass CMD102p plus Markbass Traveller 2x10 cab

The positive side to this is that now you know why folk say that pairing a 1x15 with a 4x10 is a terrible idea. Sorry you had to find out the hard way!
It was a long time ago! However it still seems that the 4x10+1x15 combination dogma is still a thing for some.

People have commented a few times on BC that speaker diameter alone doesn’t define a particular sound.
Back in the day (60’s/70’s) bands used 15 and 18 inch speaker cabs probably due to the lack of choice.
Marshall 4x12 stacks changed this somewhat, but I think it was Ampeg’s use of multiple 10 inch drivers
that really altered the game. If you’ve ever experienced an Ampeg SVT 810 the you’ll know that tens can
be a thing of beauty.
I used fifteens when first starting out, my favourite cab for years containing two EV 15 speakers.
However, once I’d tried my first 410 cab I realised that 10’s would work for me too. Abandon your
preconceptions if you can and give other cabs a try, you may well be pleasantly surprised. 😊
Before I switched to my Markbass 210 set up I heaved an Ashdown 4x10 and 1X15 around. It was when the 1x15 blew and I gigged the 4x10 solo that I saw (heard!) the light. much prefer 10s and never worried about lack of bottom, in fact a lot of rooms I have cut the bass back a little.

This is brand new, unused and first time out of the box for the photos, as I inadvertently bought two, so this one has been sitting in it’s packaging for a few months waiting for me to do something with it.

They’re £27 on fleabay and £33 on Amazon, so how about £25 posted ?

I have a brand new unboxed one of these to sell, which I’ll post in marketplace. I ordered two by mistake

DR strings, I use Fat Beams, seem to last well. If on a budget Fender Nickel wound ( made by D'addario?) are great.
