1. I'd forgotten I had actually ordered a shirt, until I read this topic today.
  2.
£185 Selling my rather wonderful Line6 G30. This is the handiest bit of kit ever, no hasstle and sounds amazing. I upgraded the rather flimsy stock link cable with a lovely brand new white Neutrik/Van Damme cable. Excellent condition. Note, as with new this G30 does not include a power supply Includes new Duracell batteries Original box & warranty card. I also have a Dunlop CAE Wah Crybaby for sale £125
Great device, absolutely love mine. BTW, mine came with a power supply all packed neatly in the box. Was yours boxed when you bought it, because it should have included one, and it wont work without one. Here is the part of the specs that tell you what you get. Line6 G30 Here's what's included:

Comes complete with transmitter, receiver and all necessary accessories including cable, power supply and batteries.
3.
Any update re this? Interested to hear how you got on.
Yes, I've just finished trying it out. It certainly gave a very dark finish, almost black in fact. BUT, on the board, which is probably oily, the stain just won't dry out, so I ended up removing it. It stained the back of the neck OK, but it would certainly need a top finish to seal it. In the end, I decided to paint the neck with spray cans, which turned out quite nice. The board which is already a bit darker than usual, I will try the olive oil method to darken it. Apparently it works quite well, and would take just a few minutes to re-apply, every so often.
  4.
This is really spooky - I've just finished looking at a site that does single hole thumbrests! http://www.classicguitarboxes.com/thumb_rests.php
Definitely the man! I have purchased a few from Guy, including a couple of custom ones he made for me, to my own design in ebony. Quality work at a very reasonable price.
  5.
So, based on your experience & similar health problems due to heavy bass playing, i take you would advise me taking a punt on the new Ibanez SR1200 then?
I've not played or heard the SR1200, so I could not advise you to choose that particular model, although I'm sure the neck will feel similar to the SR500, as the dimensions are the same. But as "aldude" points out, it does depend on the balance, a well balanced heavier bass, can in fact feel more comfortable than a lighter bass that is neck heavy, because you will constantly be holding and pulling the neck back up. I have checked on the Ibanez website, the SR1200 body has Ovankol top to Mahogany body, plus the neck is constructed of a 5pc Atlas-4 Wenge/Bubinga w/KTS™ TITANIUM Reinforcement, whereas, the SR500 has a plain Mahogany body, and the neck is a 5pc SR4 Jatoba/Bubinga. So there are bound to be some difference in balance and weight. If you do plump for the SR1200, please let me know what you think of it, as I would like to one day purchase a higher-end SR, and the SR1200 is one a have wondered about, as it is more affordable than the SR5000e which I previously had my eye on. One last thought, considering the outlay, I would recommend that you ring round all the stores to find out who has one in stock, and try it out first. I'm sure it will be a great bass, but it makes sense to try before you buy. Hope this helps a bit.
  6. I have a SR500, I got it because of a back and neck problem, it plays and sounds great, and very versatile with so many tones available. The neck is lightening fast, it's well balanced, and weighs just 6.5lbs! I have owned many very good basses in the past, and still do, but my SR500 is definitely my favourite. I have just purchased another one, which I am now modding, and I also have a SR505 5-string. The two SR500's cost me a total of £470 s/h, but both in pristine condition, and the SR505 cost £400, and was only two weeks old. That's how much I like them!
  7.
I had the same, mine was £1650, I did tell the missus first, imagine if I hadn't, I would have regretted it for the rest of my life if I didn't, she only passed away last month Treat her to something she really wants and then spend the rest on yourself. Trust me, if you were in my place you'd understand why.
My deepest sympathy on your sad loss. I'm glad you did the right thing in telling her first. I'm sure you will understand that most of the comments on this thread are light-hearted, and we all love and treat our partners well. In fact, I'm taking her out tomorrow to buy a few things, plus a meal and drink afterwards. My sincere best wishes to you.
  8.
I'm voting for this! The cakes in amsterdam are amazing as well, i ate so much over there.
We've already done the Amsterdam thing a couple of times. The last trip, we spent a few hours in a very nice "coffee shop", and tried a couple of house specials WOW!!!
  9.
This. Definitely this. Though if you want kit, why not something other than a bass? My wireless system for example is the best thing I've ever bought (Line6 G50). Decent ones are expensive!
Thanks, but I already have the Line6 G30, and I agree, they are brilliant!
  10.
It wouldn't be a problem for a man of you calibre I'm sure.
Thanks for the confidence booster, but I am pretty new to messing around with bitsa's. It's just that I think I read somewhere that the neck pocket on a Squier was a bit shallower, and could cause problems when upgrading the neck. Hopefully I'm wrong, but I would be grateful if someone could confirm whether it is a standard size.
  11.
Ibanez SR500 for sale (bargain) £200 (nearly £500 new) 4 string active, with hard case and strap Made out of bubinga 3 years old hardly used, Great for anyone with back problems as very light Quick and easy action I am Bristol based but within reason would meet halfway
Hi, is this bass still for sale, and if so, would you consider posting? I could arrange for it to be picked up from your house by the courier. Cheers
  12.
Surely you know the answer to this having built this P bass already .
Well sort of, the P I built was using a Squier Vintage Modified body, which is the same as the MIA & MIM. I have heard that the neck pocket on the Affinity models are slightly different, and need some modding.
  13. Does anyone know whether the pocket on a Squier Affinity Series P or J, is the same dimension as the MIA & MIM versions? And will a Mighty Mite neck slot in without any problems? Cheers in advance.

  15. I have been suffering pain in my thumbs for about a year now, I thought it was just my bad technique, but it turns out that I have arthritis in my hands. I've since had two cortisone injections in my right thumb, and one in the left one, which were unbelievably painful, and unfortunately, they don't seem to have made much difference. The specialist is now considering a joint replacement in each thumb, which he reckons are usually successful, and takes away all of the pain, but you do tend to lose around 20% of the strength in them though. I do hope that this is not the case with you, and is something that will heal pretty quickly. Good luck.
  16. I had a Burns short scale around 1967, it was a few years old when I bought it for £15, so probably a 1962/63/64 model. The model was a 'Sonic' and had two pickups. If you have a picture, it would make it easier for us to identify it. By the way, I swapped it a couple of years later for some fishing tackle, what a MUG!

Very nice indeed! I've just completed a P and a J myself, so I know how satisfying a self-build is. Well done.
  18.
I was a big bit pissed last night...sorry folks!
No problem, we've all been there.
  19.
I suppose you could get a 2nd hand Skoda for @ £1200?
Yeah, but the person in the beaten-up £250 little hatchback, will probably think I must be a sh*t driver, if I need to spend £1200 on a Skoda!
  20.
If you cant make good music on a cheap bass....ie squier or the likes...you are a sh*t bass player...and a bit shallow....
Nice one mate! You aren't just insulting me, as I assume your thoughts apply to everyone on BassChat, who happens to own a bass that cost a bit more than a squier. And yes, you are right, there is nothing wrong with a Squier, just like there is nothing wrong with a Skoda for example, but what's wrong in wanting a Merc too? I probably am a sh*t bass player, but we can all dream, can't we? This post is supposed to be a bit of fun. Maybe you should join a forum for "Grumpy Old Men"!!!
  21.
Interesting. If you stripped a body could you use this to stain it black? A bit 1970s MFI flat pack perhaps.
I've just ordered a bottle, when I receive it, I will experiment on various types of wood to see what kind of results it gives. I like the look of the black stained bodies on Warwicks, so if it does the job, then I might go down this route.
  22.
Ummm, is it actually a bonus?? Or is it an over-payment that they're going to ask for back lol Si
It is a proper bonus. The reason it was not expected, is because we have been promised a bonus for the past three years, but they said our targets were not met, so no bonus. But this year we had only heard a rumour that we were getting one, so after the previous three years, we did not expect it to materialise. It is definitely on my payslip, and it will be in my bank account on the 20th July. And I've just remembered that it is my wife's birthday on the 19th July, so maybe a little bit might go her way. Seriously though, I think I will spend around £300 on a bitsa, as I really enjoy searching for the parts and putting them all together, something nice for the missus, and put the rest away for a rainy day (next serious gas).
  23.
Yes. There's no reason why you shouldn't spray the neck. IMO instruments with matching necks look much better. Just mask off the fingerboard and spray the rest like you would a body. Stewmac do a black fingerboard stain but unfortunately won't ship it outside of the US. However reading the description, it looks like it's based on a leather dye so it might be possible to find a suitable alternative for sale in the UK.
Thanks, I've just found a supplier in the UK http://www.theidentitystore.co.uk/productd...amp;subcatID=91
  24. Just over an hour ago, the postman delivered my wage slip, and to my delight, I have been given a £1,200 bonus which I was not expecting. I know that I should put it away for a rainy day, but I'm gassing like mad, even though I really don't need any more basses. Maybe I should just put another "bitsa" together on the cheap, and put the rest away. What do you think guys/gals? By the way, the missus doesn't know yet, should I tell her? Help please!
