3.
I'd really expect the buzz to disappear altogether when you concentrate on your fingering. It doesn't require that much pressure on the string to fret it properly, and once your attention has been brought to the problem I'd have thought it should go away. If this doesn't also happen when you practice for more than 45 minutes at home perhaps the issue is being exacerbated by a more exuberant right hand technique in a band situation. Is this happening all over the neck? It could be that the bass is in need of a set up or that just the strings need raising slightly. If the set up is adjusted for a low action only just on the right side of fret buzz, when you tire it might be that the problem arises. The same applies if the neck is shifting slightly. If this doesn't happen at home I'd start by raising the strings slightly. If it turns out to be purely down to technique it's easy enough to lower them again.
thanks for you help
4.
Twang? Do you perhaps mean fret buzz - a buzzing sound that is probably most noticeable when the string is first plucked? If it is fret buzz and it only appears after 45 minutes then it is probably down to technique. Does it go away if you focus more on what your left and right hands are doing? The alternative is that the neck on your bass may be shifting slightly due to changes in temperature. Do you rehearse somewhere particularly hot or cold?
we rehearse in a hall so there may be some temperature changes, there is some improvement if i concentrate
5. i have noticed while at band practice that after about 45 mins my strings when played seem to twang. is this as a result of my playing technique, i.e am i to heavy handed with my right hand, or not fretting the string properly, may be i'm suffering finger fatigue. could the action be wrong or the strings need changing (they are around 3 months old, elixir strings) any thoughts or comments welcome
6. i'll be up for it, work allowing!
7. i don't want to seem a nerd but what is a bass bash? what happens there and is it good for inexperienced bassists. do you limit the numbers to a first come basis?
8.
Ok fellow BC'ers Below are a few snaps of slepe hall which is approx: 70' x 40' (21m x 9m) about 50 parking spaces too and parking in the street It can be split with a heavy curtain at 3 or 4 points across the hall although they only have one curtain to use. There is also a bar down one end of the hall, a seperate entrance aswell (and a kitchen if we want it) If we book the room for 16/1/2010 or before then we can get the hall for £200 (all day & night too). The only problem is money is upfront so we may need to find a way around this. I'm also trying to consider solutions to the 'wall of noise' scenario. To this end im thinking of splitting the hall fairly evenly down the middle. With maybe 5/6 rigs set up at a time. What do people think about this? Also trying to think of seminars which could be held, feel free to pm ideas if you dont want to post on here. I'm thinking of holding an ultimate blind A/B test as one seminar for example. People comment on a sound coming from a particular bass coming through rig 1/2/3 in a certain catagory. Then same thing for particular rig and bass a/b/c in that catagory. If people have anymore input on these or particular rigs they would like to hear in each catagory then it would be appreciated. Without further ado I give you Slepe Hall
did you mean 16/1/2011?
9. i live near to norwich, whilst i was looking to buy an amp i went to many of the music shops but i found they had a limited range, the norfolk guitar and bass centre in watton is good but in the end i found the best, for variety of amps to compare, and most helpful was bass merchant in colchester.
10. i know i don't have a lot of experience but i have just purchased a barefaced compact and my god, it's loud
11. i'd go i there was one, cambridge an hour from king's lynn
12. i,ve been married for 22 years and i have just discovered the bass, my kids are grown up so no compromise there, formed a band with work colleagues. and getting support from my wife in that respect, only able to practise 2-3 times a month so no problems as yet there. not done any gigs. i think she's happy i have found an interest, it gives us another aspect to discussions. (i have something to talk about) she has her own interests as well out side our marriage. time will tell, after 22 years we are secure in our marriage, besides i want to keep my cock where it is thank you!
13. has anyone had experience with the momark modular system. any good or does it have faults.
14. i started playing bass less than a year ago, i bought one of the starter packs, bass and amp, £169. it helped me to get to grips with the basics, and find out if playing bass was going to work for me without waisting shed loads of money. i am in a more enviable position than most and i was able to purchase a better bass fairly soon afterwards, a G&L l2500, fantastic bass.
15. i have just bought a barefaced compact cab, i am looking to match it with either a shuttle 9.0, mark bass equivelent (as there are a number to choose from) or a TC electronic 450, any comments before i go and try them. i may have bought things the wrong way round but that's me! the compact has apower rating of 200-600 watts rms at 8 ohms
16. i have looked at a number of options and spoken to the nice people at the MU and i shall be joining them
17. thanks for all your replies. i have looked at the suggested list of insurers and found their quotes to be reasonable. do i have to be a full time musician to be in the musicians union and whats the minimum liability cover, how much have you got?

21. wow, thanks for all all of your responses, like you say, the only thing to do is to try each one and see which one sounds the best to you. flat rounds round wounds, is this to a personal preference?
22. i know other people may have asked this question but what are the differences between these basses, and others. is there a good all rounder , i notice a lot of bassists in this forum have precision basses. thanks in anticipation of you explanations. jon
