1. Received the BB 415 for Ben this morning, I got to say I love the wine burst look and the grain poking through the red subtly.
As for playing this was going to be a back up fr my TRB5-II and you know what I would go as far as say I prefer the way this feels and plays, I really like the chunky p style neck to it, nice and fast too.

As for pictures here we are:

And this is my current family!

2. Bought Ben's BB 415, great guy to deal with, answered all my questions and the bass has been looked after very well and arrived very well packed.

He was a pleasure to deal with and I would have no problems buying or selling from him again.

Cheers for the 415! I will look after it ;)

3. For me it just depends on the type of music and what kind of sound you want to get. I am a fingerstyle player but I sometimes wish I am able to play with a pick as it would give a nice edge to some of the songs we have in my band.

I wouldn't worry about how it looks either if you feel your playing can go further with pick playing and that's what you enjoy more than go for it. I would personally try and get equally as good with fingers and pick which would probably take your playing even further :).

Well, my BB605 arrived yesterday, and what can I say........ Awesome!

I was looking for a cheap but decent backup for my Sandberg, and I really couldn't find anything better for the money. It's been well used and there's a bit of a nasty deep scratch just above the upper horn, but its in great working order and the neck and fretboard is in great condition. I need to give it a good setup but its ace!

I took it along to band practice last night, and I was amazed by how good it sounds, I'm certainly not worried about upgrading the pups at the moment. It sounds monster, especially when you get the frequency sweep pot just in the sweet spot between "clang" and "boom". It's actually a perfect sort of backup for my sandberg, I can get a fairly similar sort of tone and the neck feel isn't a million miles away. The other plus is that it's very light on the strap for a 5er.

All in all, I'm a very happy boy! May try to post some pics when I can. Anyway, I'm off for a tinker!

Cant wait to see it, is it just me or there seems to be a huge amount of love for BBs at this moment in time, its nice and its fitting for such a good line of basses.

Has there ever been a "bad" BB? One that puts a bit of a smudge on an otherwise clean sheet?

Also I will be expecting my 415 tomorrow and im really excited!

5. Oh nice man sounds like a cool project, make sure you do a build diary I would love to see how it turns out =)

Also as this thread is for BB fans I thought I would mention I am selling my BB414 as I have bought a 415 and I cant see me using the 414 as much in that case, if anyone is interested the link is in my sig or pm me =)

Also is anyone using halfwounds on their 5 string BBs? If so what would you suggest? I have been using hotwires on my TRB but I find the B string to be a bit dull compared to the rest.

6. Could anyone suggest to me decent Halfwounds and Nickle plated rounds for 5 strings? I have been using Status Hotwire Halfrounds on my TRB 5 string for a year now but I find that the B string seems to be a bit dull compared to the rest of them, im looking for a set that have a bright B string.

7. Up for sale is my Yamaha BB414, I am selling it because I have just bought a BB415 which means the 414 will be used less. Instead of leaving it to gather dust I would like to sell it to someone who will actually use it as that's what this bass deserves. Quick specs below:

"The BB414 feature a beefy alder body with a bolt-on maple neck and rosewood fingerboard. Electronics include a ceramic soapbar-style bridge pickup, a split coil neck pickup, a toggle selector switch and speed knobs for master volume and master tone."

Construction: Bolt-on
Scale Length: 34" (863.6mm)
Fingerboard: Rosewood
Radius: 10" (250mm)
Frets: 21
Body: Alder
Neck: Maple
Bridge: Upgraded to a Gotoh
Pickups: Split Single x 1 Bar Single
Pickup Switch: 3-Position Toggle
Controls: Mater Volume, Master Tone

These basses really are work horses and punch way above their weight, in some cases I have left my TRB behind in favor of this BB414, pickups are hot and punchy and give a great sound on their own or together. Currently strung with Picato flats but im happy to string it with what ever the buyer wants before I send it, it has also been upgraded with a Gotoh bridge to improve sustain which works like a charm.

Condition wise there is only 1 tiny little dent in the paint work on the back where the neck is bolted on I have tried to take a picture of it but to be fair its so small its hard to see even when you know where it is! There is a couple of scratches on the back of the neck but you cant feel them and they are so small they wont come out in pictures, apart from that its perfect.

[s]I have also thrown in a hard case with the sale.[/s] Case has been sold separately. Will throw in a soft case for free.

I am happy for it to be collected or I will send it via courier for an extra £20.

Looking for £140 o.n.o

Feel free to pm me with offers and I will get back to you asap, any questions don't be afraid to ask! :D

8. For the money you can't really beat Yamaha for quality, they punch way above their weight and they never seem to get the label of a "beginner" bass. They are all built like tanks you will never have a problem with any of the fit and finish of one and they sound really great.

if you like the chunckier necks and that the BB series is just for you, P/J config with very hot pickups, you can pick them up for between £140 and £160 and you won't be disappointed, they are the kind of basses you will end up keeping for years and no matter what else you buy you will probs keep going back to them, its what's I've done lol.

I actually am selling my BB414 as I'm getting a 5 string version any day now lol, give me a pm if your interested :)

9. Sell/Trade Value - £450

I am looking to trade my Yamaha TRB 5-II, I am looking to trade for 4 stringers and open to any offers. I am also happy to include a little bit of money your way for something worth a bit more too.

The original hard case is included also, there isn't a scratch on the bass, its in perfect condition and comes with the original manual too.

These were the last TRB models to be made in Japan.

I am happy to listen to any offers and as mentioned earlier I am happy to include a bit of money your way if the trade is worth more.

Makes that im looking out for more than others include Yamaha, Peavey, G&L, Warwick and Overwater by Tanglewood but I am happy to review all offers from other brands.

Looking forward to your offers!

Cheers for the offer but if I remember correctly (I had a BB614) those tuners have the wrong buttons (fairly normal elephant ears) - the ones for my era of bass have more chunky, slightly heart shaped ones like this:
Ahh ok man no worries well if I come across any I will remember to let you know =) What era is yours anyway?

11.
Och no, I'm just going to leave it as is, it's not awful looking and it also means that I wouldn't be apoplectic with rage if someone knocked it over or whatever (like I would be if say my Gibson RD Artist took a tumble!). The only thing that's bugging me now is the non standard tuners, they're licenced Schallers like you might find on a Fender product and while they do the job fine the buttons aren't "right" and I'd like to make it right if I can find some replacements :)

If you're just starting out with projects/rebuilds, in my opinion you can't beat getting hold of a Squier/Fender P or J. So much choice of replacement parts and all mostly interchangeable. It was pure luck that I managed to get all Yamaha BB bits for this one, replacing them with off the shelf stuff would probably have required some woodworking/ingenuity, some of which would have been irreversible (changing size/shape of pickup routs etc.)

All in all this cost me around £50. This was due to some very generous BCers being on board with what I was trying to do and basically giving me the stuff for not much more than postage costs or even taking that on the chin in return for a wee contribution to ped's Greggs fund ;)
Thanks for the advice I will look into it =) I actually might have a set of BB tuners up for sale soon as I might be changing mine off my BB414, all depends on how much I can live with the neck dive lol. If they become available I will give you a shout =).

£50!? Thats the bargain of the year you were very lucky indeed.

12. Fair play you have done a great job on it  Are you going to do anything with the body like re spray it or something? or will you let it age with grace? I've always like the idea of a little project for me to work on but always been put off by the fact im not great with electronics and stuff like that lol. What would you say is the best way to get into that sort of thing?

Just out of interest how much did the whole thing cost at the end?

13. For a 5 string you can get a Yamaha BB415 for about £200 second hand, if you ask anyone who has played these they will tell you they are great basses, built like tanks, great sound And look very cool too. I have a BB414 and its one of my favourite to play by a long shot.

Also you could look at a Yamaha TRB1006 or a TRB6-II, incredibly versatile basses, I play finger style with mine in a metal band AMD every practice sesh we have the others in the band keep mentioning on nice the TRB sounds in the mix, it cuts through really nice and you can get any kind of sound you would need out of it.

You wouldn't need to change either of their pickups as Yamaha are renowned for producing really great sounds, they use top quality stuff in their pick ups no matter what the cost of the instrument.

14. This thread hasn't been active for a little while so I thought I would update it ^^

I am getting my hands on a BB415 very soon in the wine sunburst (I am still gagging for a BB in the orange sparkle!) Im going to fit it with some flats to compliment my BB414 which also has flats.

Also speaking on the RBX im planning on getting some new tuners for my RBX374 as the stock ones its currently fitted with rattle a little bit, this aint an issue when its plugged in as you cant hear it but if you were to stand close enough to me and the amp is turned down you can hear it a bit so im going to get those sorted! I am also planning on giving it a bit of a new look, maybe some vinyl stickers to give it a bit of a different look.

In other news, I have just got my mits on an RBX375... prime candidate for pimping!
The RBX series are not my most favorite looking basses but iv always had a soft spot for them and I do really like their sound, what are you planning to do or have done to it to pimp it up? :D
