I think a regular DI will do. As I said, I'm not much of a bassist right now, so any sound will do Seeing as my bass is active, I can use a passive DI right? (I don't wanna eat 9v batteries!)

The desk is a Presonus 24.4.2, and the amp is a EV CP2200. So I should just get a decent reliable DI box (active or passive? My bass is active)?

I've seen those Sansamp type ones, with a bass "sound" inside it, with EQ and stuff... Sorry, I'm not much of a bassist, don't know all the terminology haha.

Sorry, was a bit unsure where to post this. My Markbass broke a couple weeks back, still being fixed now, so I'm borrowing an amp from a friend. It got me thinking about a backup though. We have a DI, just a Pulse £30 jobbie, but we use that for keyboard. What's the best little box (affordable, £150ish) I can get for bass so I can just go into the desk and use the monitors and PA?

The CMD stays at our rehearsal spot then goes in the van for a gig. Just small enough to go into my bedroom (Though the carry bag is a nice touch.) We rehearse quietly. We're a pop rock band, normally don't even use microphones.

I'm after an amp I can use at home and in rehearsal. I already have a Markbass CMD121p which I'm very happy with. Both amps are similarly priced, and I can't try either one out. The PJ is the cheapest and it comes with a carry bag (Handy for me biking to rehearsal). Cheers! Hey guys, I never thought about my strings. That's a damn good point. Turning the treble up does indeed make a hiss.

I've played it roughly 24 hours, (mostly for gigs) gain around 11 o'clock, master around the same, EQ fairly flat. Something to do with the tweeter?

Sandberg MM2

I've noticed the past few gigs that my D string is noticeable quieter than the others, and my low B is pretty loud. What could be causing this? I have my EQ relatively flat, with a slight boost on the treble on my bass. My bass is a Sandberg MM2 (dual humbucker, both pickups selected) and the amp is a Markbass Mini CMD121p.

I've had this a fair amount of times with guitars (and not guitars that are mega high end either). I was at a snooty shop in York (my home town) and asked to try a Jackson Rhoads 5 (a mere £799). I'd been after one for a while, but never seen the ivory model in person. I was a teen at the time, long hair, patched leather jacket etc, and asked the salesman, also a teen, long hair, little shirt with his name on a badge, if I could try it. Conversation went something like: "We only let people who are going to buy the guitar play it." "Well I don't know how it plays." "It's an expensive instrument, it plays great." To be honest, I would have been fine to buy it and know that it was right because I'd tried the same model but different colour before. However, we all know that woods are different and who's to know if this one was a turkey? I asked for the manager, put my money on the counter and pointed at it and asked him what it was. When he said "A lot of £20 notes *grin*" I responded with something like "Yes, a lot of £20 notes you aren't getting because of this twonk" and pointed out the salesman. As it happens, I ended up buying an ESP M-II from Evil Bay.

I dunno. This may be naive of me but I'm happy to have anything as long as the price reflects it. There could be 2 basses exactly the same quality and playability, one made in USA, one made in China. I would be happy to pay upwards of £1000 for the USA one, but would want the Chinese one for much less because it's cheaper to manufacture things over there. Dunno if I explained that right.
