1. That's lovely looking bass, hope you enjoy it !
2. I went on the Saturday. I didn't talk to any fellow BC's as I don't know anyone!. I too thought exhibitors where thin. This was only my third time but I remember Ibanez and Yamaha having sizable displays in previous years. Good to see Overwater there again and there were some amazing basses on show and some pretty impressive playing from some of the folk trying them out. I was a bit disappointed with Dave Swift's master class. Top bloke and great player but 45 mins of chat..maybe my expectation was wrong, the only prior master class I'd been to was TM Stevens a few years back who rocked. I enjoyed Rhino's main stage performance including the few errors. Robert Trujillo and band............... wow !!!.
3.
Agreed.
Agree too - this is what I do with my CMD112P combo and cab
4. Joining the world of bass late I always find this very strange. I used to play saxophone in a national level concert band and Yamaha instruments be it woodwind, brass, keys, drums where very well regarded and sought after across that community, right up there with the best of their type. A Yamaha instrument would always get a nodding know of approval.
5.
Edit: Having read the above, I'd suggest glueing or sewing pieces of old inner tube to each corner and in the centre of his mat, to prevent slippage of the sort. 3 feet, you say..? Take his hormone pills away; he'll do himself damage with such mis-placed energy. (His nickname is, of course, 'Animal', I trust..?)
That is a good suggestion I will pass it on to him, thanks. He was a Military PT instructor and bashes his drum kit in a 'was a Military PT instructor' kind of way.
I would probably be just as mad as you, but I have a better drummer story... during a rehearsal, a drummer decided it would be really funny to crash his cymbal as loud as possible by my ear while I was setting up my pedalboard, triggering tinnitus that hasn't stopped in the ten years since and will probably bug me for the rest of my life even if I sell all my basses.
What an unbelievably stupid thing to even think of doing. I hope it does clear up for you in time.
6. Thanks for the replies. It happened in the studio. Our drummer was banging away relentlessly which kept moving his kit across the room. We (other band members) were discussing things between songs, he kept going and bumped his high hat in to me from behind. It wasn’t malicious.. perhaps more careless and stupid with attitude. As an ex-drummer a can empathise a bit but I wasn’t expecting him to move his kit nearly 3 feet (it does raise the question of how good his drum mat is on a wood floor) from when I turned around and thought he might have spotted how close he was to me. I do realise how ridiculous that sounds, I guess you had to be there.. Some good suggestions and the title may have been about a drummer extracting a stick from a cavity, but he is bigger than me. So it seems.. let it go and think it the first step towards a road worn.
7. Hi all, just fishing for some opinion.. Our drummer bashed his high-hat into my Fender American Special P Bass putting a reasonable ding in it near the rear strap button. Now, it’s my most expensive bass (admittedly it’s not ‘that’ expensive compared to a lot on here..) that I’ve kept immaculate for the 3 years I’ve owned it. It was also a present that has great sentimental value. This was over a week ago and I’m still upset/annoyed by this – partly fueled by said drummers somewhat blasé reaction (e.g. can’t you colour it in ?). I’m normally mild mannered and it’s been suggested I may be overreacting. So before I enrol in anger management classes: Has similar happen to you ? How would or did you react ? What would you expect the drummer to say or do ? Thanks!
8. Hi, slightly old thread now but thought I'd give an update. The decision was taken out of my hands and my girfriend bought me a Marbass cmd 112p for Xmas, which was ok as the way I was heading anyway. I have to say I agree with all the love, it's an amazing amp, amazing tone and volume and I've found it easy to get a warm thump with my Precision or a cleaner modern sound when needed by simply adjusting the two filter knobs, brilliant. No doubt there are better amps and combos out there for the more experienced bassist but for my more modest needs I really can't see how I'd ever need anything more (until gas dictates a have to buy the NY112 extension cab obviously..)
9. Thanks for the replies. Some love for the 121p especially with the option of adding the ext if needed. Does anyone have experience of the 121h ?. Just wondering if there is a significant difference with a different cab and speaker.
10. After deciding an extension cab is not the way forward, I've been looking at the new Fender Rumble 500 combo and both Markbass cmd 112p and 112h as upgrades on my current Ashdown mag 115. My main criteria are lighter, louder and a bit more clarity to compete with enthusiastic guitarists and an excitable drummer with a new DW kit. There are a few markbass threads and they seem highly thought off, especially the 112p, but wondered if anyone has used both and can explain the main difference or has tried against the fender ?. I'm assuming they'll all be a step up from the Ashdown! Cheers

How to slap..
Again, I really can't overstate the importance of omfort.
How to slap..

Hi, Thanks very much for all the replies, advice and suggestions much appreciated. Lots to go on and will check out the books, YouTube and DVD suggestions. I take the point about teachers. I live just north of Swindon (not from Swindon..) so if anyone has a teacher they can recommend around the area then that might be something to try. Thanks again, cheers R. .
13. Hi, So I went to see Level 42 live in Oxford across the weekend and Mark King one of my favourite bass players live for the first time…. they might not be everyone’s cup of tea but they put on a great show and Mr King can certainly play… to say the least !. Its convinced me I should learn how to slap properly so what are your top tips to becoming an accomplished slapper ? Cheers.. R
14. Thanks, that's what I thought. From the quoted weights the newer ones do seem to be quiet light, or at least lighter
15. Hi, is anyone using or has used the Peavey Max combos ? In particular the 300w115 mk2 ? My Ashdown Mag 115 mk11 can't quite keep up with two guitars and a drummer so looking for a bit more ooomph. I've been looking at extension cabs and other combos for a while but not got around to buying anything yet. I noticed these are being discounted and wondered if anyone had any thoughts on them ? Cheers
16. Thanks all for the replies. Interesting points about tweaking the eq.. I'll try that first to see if it helps but getting the ext cab sounds like the way to go. Cheers, R
17. Hi, I'm finding my MAG11 115 combo is struggling to keep up with our new drummer and our two guitarist who like playing at ear bleeding volumes. I'm wondering if adding an Ashdown 115 slim cab will help or if I should be looking at a new more powerful/louder combo ?. I've previously been put off the extension cabs due to the size difference to the combo, probably not a valid reason! Anyone added the cab to the combo and thinks it a worthwhile addition ? Cheers
18. Sorry meant to add.. I've tried a BB1024 too and with my novice hands and ears could hardly notice a difference
19. + 1 for the BB424x the neck is great, fatter than a jazz but not a baseball bat either. Have you considered an Overwater/Tanglewood Contemporary J ?. That has a similar neck, I have both and the OW shades it IMHO. Both are amazing for the money and a bargain 2nd hand.
20. Lindo P copy from Crack Converters, first bass and at the time I thought it was ok. It did a job but as I know now that job should have been to start a fire with. No bass should give you splinters from the fretboard..
21. Thank you for all the replies, the Fender email address and suggestions. Drilling the shop lock out to open the door.. I probably won't actually do that but love your thinking :-). I'll email Fender for their opinion then I think its back to sunny Swindon to ask for a new pick guard. Cheers.. R
22. Hi all, wondered if anyone else has experienced this issue ? I took my new American Special P to my local music shop for a basic setup. Turns out the neck was like a banana however to adjust the truss rod they've chamfered the edge of the pick guard hole with a knife saying 'the special fender tool would not fit otherwise'. Not happy but before making a scene I wondered if this is normal ?. I was going to mail Fender but haven't been able to find an emil address as yet. Cheers.. R
23. Thanks for the replies. I know I'm not going to get the exact same sound as Muse but just trying to get something half passable for the limited gigs we play. Will have another play. cheers R
24. Hi, our band is playing a few Muse tracks and I've been trying to get close to the sounds on Uprising, Starlight and Time is Running Out using my Zoom B3 with very limited success. I've been using my American Special P Bass, BB424X and Overwater/Tanglewood J4. I'm still a notice in the world of effects so wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction please ? Thanks :-)
25. Got it around 8 mins... thanks!
