1. Sold my GK MB150S combo to Ialma - had great communication throughout and he was VERY patient and understanding with waiting for me to finish a tour to get the right shipping quotes. Genuine guy all round.
2. I've flown many times with my GEL Eminence Portable Upright Bass - always with the neck detached and inside it's flight case, except for once when I chanced my arm and brought it onboard a RyanAir flight to London, but that was at least 5/6 years ago when the were less narky than they are now. Best way to cope if you don't want to buy an extra seat each time is to get a flight case made, or look into long golf cases, the light weight molded plastic ones.
3. PM's answered. And.....................BUMPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!
4. Thanks for the bump Barrie - hope all is well. Yes, the volume out of these is astonishing. Playing with an acoustic guitarist who likes his monitors loud, I only have the master volume at 3-4 to cut through those jangly thin strings. (you just know I'm going to talk myself into keeping this....promise I won't, definitely for sale!!!)
5.
Bump, I use 2 of these together, glorious sound. 1 does ok on its own too.
Thanks for the bump Nig, apologies for the delay in general politeness - my bad.
6. This amp will be in Leicester on March 14th/15th, then heading home with me on March 15th via Holyhead, so if that's handy for anyone get in touch and save yourself the shipping costs!!
7. Hey drewk-ie - Welcome from a fellow Irish bass player. Nice collection you have there - tho can't understand why you'd swap Tipperary for Madrid
8. Welcome indeed. I'm touring around Scotland at the minute, so I sympathize with the snow delays. I had a much fun day driving to Ullapool from Stranraer the other day, with the A9 being closed. I'm playing at FifeStock tomorrow and Wednesday if you're around by any chance.
9. Bump!!! This is back up for grabs - no longer on hold.
10. I do backing vocals as part of an original trio that I work with - acoustic guitar/lead vocal, upright/backing vocal and backing vocal - and it's certainly led to me becoming an integral part of the sound. I never sang in any bands before, especially after being actively encouraged to never do it after one failed attempt. So with this trio it's been great to have a platform to learn something new, and have that be a new strength to offer. Like Casapete said - I've a very ordinary sounding voice, and would certainly never think of singing a main vocal - but with another backing vocal and mine adding to a main vocal it's made this trio sound bigger than the sum of it's parts. All good!!
11. Hey All - I had previously withdrawn this a while back but now definitely for sale. Up for sale is my Gallien Krueger MB150S Combo. I bought this amp in January 2009 and have only used it to play along side one acoustic guitar player - in other words it's in near perfect condition. Brand new these are going for between £586-649. I'm selling this 12 month old amp for [s]£400[/s] £380(including the £40 gig bag) plus postage. Postage should be about £30-ish. You're welcome to source your own courier. I'll also throw in a tweeter I had wired up that can be plugged one of the speaker outputs, for those extra sparkly moments. This amp will be in Leicester on March 14th/15th, then heading home with me on March 15th via Holyhead, so if that's handy for anyone get in touch and save yourself the shipping costs!! Here's the guff from GK: Longtime favorite for session bassists such as Leland Sklar, Charlie Haden, Ron Carter and Jimmy Earl, the Gallien-Krueger MB150S-III/112 remains the industry standard for high quality compact bass amplification in and out of the studio. The Gallien-Krueger MB150S-III/112 improves on its predecessor with improved signal to noise ratio (-90dB) and much cooler operation. With its sturdy welded aluminum chassis, the Gallien-Krueger MB150S-III/112 is equally at home on the road, or in the studio. Gallien-Krueger MB150S-III/112 main features include: POWER <1% THD: 100W (150W with Extension Cabinet) COOLING: Convection INPUT SECTION: 1/4" Jack, -14dB Pad and Volume VOICING FILTER: Low Cut, Adjustable Contour and High Boost EQUALIZER: Active Four-Band OUTPUT: Master and Limiter (Switch, Level and LED) DIRECT OUT: XLR Pre/Left, XLR Post/Right and Ground Lift. 12. Hey Folks - Up for sale - my Sadowsky Metro UV70 in Olympic White. Bass is in near mint condition, barely a year old. It's only cosmetic flaws are a lightly plectrum scratched pick-guard and a tiny dent at the top of the headstock - see photo for that one. The pick-guard isn't worth mentioning but I do because it's not shiny brand new looking. Reason for sale is that I have a few other basses that are getting more use, mainly my upright, so I think we'd all agree it's a sin to have a Sadowsky sitting unloved. Here's the specs from Sadowsky: Finish - Olympic White Body - Alder, Full Size Fingerboard - Morado, 20 Frets, 10" Radius, 1.5" Nut Width Pickguard - Tortoise Hardware - Chrome Pickups - Sadowsky Humcancelling J in '70s Location Preamp - Sadowsky Preamp with Vintage Tone Control The full model/serial number is UV70RWALD4 OWH / #M2075 I'm selling this for £1200 plus shipping - probably about £40 insured. The Bass Gallery has these new at £1900. Not interested in trades, sorry. Ships with Sadowsky Semi-Hard case and paperwork/adjustment keys. As a special BassChat offer - I'm touring Scotland and England from Feb 26 to Mar 14, so someone could save themselves the shipping charges by meeting up with me somewhere on the road. I'll only do this for a definite sale tho so contact me for dates and places if that sounds like a plan. There's also a photo here from Sadowsky's website - this isn't the exact same bass, just the same model. I've included it because it's a better photo than mine. 13.
Is that Mike Watt's knackered old EB0/EB3/whatever?
Yup, that's Watt's -tho I think this is the one he had nicked last year.
14.
I think there's some truth in this. I once saw Pete Townsend throw a puppy into a stack of Hiwatts.
That's nothing - you should see the video where he throws a Hiwatt into a stack of puppies!!! That's just..... a blatant disregard of his equipment!!!!
15. *I just posted this on the other VFB for sale here, so only fair to say the same thing here* Bump for the Barge Concepts VFB. They're such a useful pedal for keeping your low-end AND the sound of whatever effect you're using. No more getting a great effect sound and then having to ruin it to get your low-end back in. Plus, their pedals are REALLY well made.

At £50 posted this is a steal, and if I didn't have one already I wouldn't be telling you all how good these are!!!
17. I just replaced my dead Realist (in fairness, it lasted about 7 years and was taken on and off quite a lot) with an Apt-Flex. Similar in design, and positioned just like The Realist, I found it to have a stronger signal and a less murky tone to The Realist. Available from Jonas Lohse at Lando Music in Frankfurt. I'm not associated with Jonas, just a very happy customer - he really has great customer service nailed. Also have great results from a K&K Bass Max. Less acoustic sounding to the Apt-Flex/Realist design, but sometimes more practical for volume and a solid signal. As for EQ - if you can find the discontinued Fishman Dual Parametric DI, they're a very flexible unit. So good I bought two But by all accounts it's successor, the Fishman Pro is a quality unit too.
18. If it's any help - I had a double bass shipped here and it cost $600, at the time that was just over £300. I've also had quotes of anywhere between $200-1000 for shipping a double bass to the UK. And what makes it worse for you is that a 6x10 cab will undoubtedly weigh more than an upright. Hope that hasn't rained on your parade. Those costs were for air-freight, so I imagine going by boat to be a lot cheaper. I did have to pay import duty, and also an airport storage fee (the cheek!!!) while they processed the duty.
