  1. Sorry, I have edited the post to say "On the Cmaj7, I would play Root, 3,4,5 of the maj scale" - I dont know if thats what you understood me to mean anyway... Thanks for your advice guys, I didnt want to just say "ok" and not know why!!
  2. Putting a bass line to one of our original songs: Verse: Em D Cmaj7 Now the way I wanted to play it was like this: On the Cmaj7, I would play Root, 3,4,5 of the maj scale - which then enables me so slide nicely up to the A and on 'D' string for the breakdown. But the guitarist says that wont work, because the song is in Em. I am not really big on theory, I know the major, minor, and pent scales but just kind of work by ear to see which one I can apply to said song. So i'm just wondering, does that not work? and why?
  3. Thanks for the info guys. I told them this, but then again they couldnt understand why I would use a 300watt amp, when they only have 90/100 watts.. Everything was turned up to would be loud enough. Knobody listens to me, i'm only the bassist
  4. So, we have just acquired this second hand PA system. The mixer is 400w, and there are two speakers, with that look like small tweeters. Its all in very good condition, and it was a bargain at the price. But can we really run 3 instruments (2 guitars and bass) plus vocals through it? We play indie/rock. Oasis, Stereophonics, Ocean Colour Scene. We tried it last night, and the bass was all muddy, nothing I could do with the EQ to brighten it up, and the vocals were just plain awful. I also noticed that on the desk the PEAL L and PEAK R lights kept flashing red when we kicked into a song, what does that mean? Also am I right in thinking if there are 4 inputs going into the mixer, each one takes up 100watts each? So essentially the vocals only have 100watts to work with. We will be playing a lot of pub/club gigs 100+ people. Do you guys think this is enough power?

  9. Marshall ED1 blurb, should explain it! The Compressor pedal senses the level of the incoming guitar signal and, as the signal level decays, the gain of the internal circuitry is boosted to provide extra level and hence sustain. The attack control modifies the dynamic response of the guitar signal (the effect of plucking a string) and allows you to achieve a range of effects from rounded and mellow to percussive and funky. The Compressor also features an Emphasis control which allows you to assign compression and target the frequencies you want to compress. This means that you can, for example, tighten up or compress your bass notes and let your treble notes ring out.
  10. hi, im new to this forum so i thought i'd stop by here and say hello everyone. Live in west yorkshire, and play in a band Little Vegas Lies. Started playing bass about 6 years ago, but have only just taken it back up within the last six months. I play a fender jazz MIM with a custom shop neck, and an ashdown 300mag through a mag cab.
