1.
I have the 5er, but with the pre replaced with a John East URetro. It rocks. This is basically the later Jack bass (J pups instead of 'buckers) with a headstock. Considering how much love there is for Jacks, I'm always surprised how little people think of the B. Thu neck, flattish fingerboard, narrow-ish string spacing. Good action. Don't know about jazzes being 'thin' - on more than one occasion I've been told that people have never heard a bass sound so 'bassy' as my B - I believe a lot of reggae guys use Jacks & Bs. I paid £100 for mine used about 6 years ago. Thay tend not to get as much as a Jack. Get it. G.
Cheers G, Just hope I can grab a good deal on this one. The only bass I've ever had with twin jazz p'ups was a Status 1000 and from what could get out of it and the guys on YT the sound was quite thin. Fingers crossed on this one J
 2.
Here are a couple of videos of the 5 strings version, everything is the same except for the pups. One day I'll get my Jaydee! J
 3. any more info out there? Whats is worth? Neck, sound? Sorry to be a pain, but I don't want to miss out on a deal! Cheers J
 4.
I really rate them.
thanks what basses could you compare them to? Would it be similar or better than a Status-washburn 1000? I've currently got a schecter custom 4 diamond, is the hohner a better all rounder? Cheers J
 5.
The only thing I know about the B-bass is that a guy I know used to have a 5 string active one, it was a stunning thing to look at and had a lovely smooth sound or a fantastic growl when dug in hard. I regret not buying it a couple of years ago, in fact. I never heard him do any slappity stuff on it so don't know how they are for that side of things. Not much help, I know!
thanks for that, I'm just not sure what they are worth! Can the twin jazz pick ups be a bit thin sounding? My old Status 1000 was a bit thin sounding...
 6. bump please. anyone with info please let me know!!
 7. Hi, I've been offered a Hohner B bass, the 4 string active through neck model, is it any good? It has 2 x jazz pick ups, 2 band EQ and the Stienburg bit, but its not headless. I play alot of Jazz Funk (Mark King sort of thing) will this bass be any good for all that? I've heard 'The Jack' on youtube, but never one of these being slapped to hell! What other basses does this compare to and what sort of value? Any help please!! Cheers J
Dont like doing this but there's a bass ive been after for ages. For sale is my Yamaha BB1100s. Made in Taiwan in 1985. All original apart from the machine heads that were replaced many years ago, not sure what make they are. P/J pickup configuration and it has a passive/active/mute switch which is handy. Prity decent condition for its age, not perfect as it has been gigged continuously. Frets are really good considering the age and the ammount of use its had. It recently had the active electronics fixed. I'm not sure what was wrong with it but it wasnt a big job and its all fine now. The neck plays well and the truss rod is all working. No issues that I am aware of. Currently strung with D'addarrio Chromes. Fantistic bass that can cover many situations and it's a gigging machine. In my opinion the best bass you can get for the money. I'm looking for £350 for this. Located NE Lancashire. Please ask if you need any more info. Cheers!
Consider a swap?? Let me know!
For sale is my 80's Vantage Bass. I believe these were made in the Matsumoku factory and have a prity good reputation. The bass in is near perfect condition apart from the selector knob that I have taken off to put on another bass. It has no issues. Located in NE Lancashire. Looking for £250. If you need any more information please ask.
Consider a swap for my Schecter Diamond custom 4?? Let me know
 16. For sale is my Schecter Diamond Custom 4 in deep red/wood grain now £200. Would like sale by the end of the week latest or its on ebay tomorrow to the highest bidder (booo!) EMG pick ups, which were the same that were on my custom Zoot bass, so plenty of tone possibilities. I think it has the EMG 40 HZ's on it. Very light bass so any one a bit smaller or with back troubles with love the bass, ideal for long gigs/practicing. Its got a great low action and I'll try to throw in a recent set of strings. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppatrN3E7uU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ef9FHn7l_i8 (more bassy on that one) using 25-85's on there, so quite trebley!! Bolt on neck, active, 2 band EQ. Thanks J
 17. Hi all, Been looking at the HK basses on eBay that get sent from Germany, does anyone own/played/know anything? They look pretty good (for £300??) but I can't find anything about them! I had an AntonioTsai bass a while ago, and even though all reviews were awful, the bass was fine and sold on well due to its looks! I do know it has Kent Armstrong pick ups and a 3 band eq... Are these pick ups any good? I'm going from a Status to a cheaper bass (financial reasons) so I do want one that will slap/solo well. Let me know! Thanks in advance for any help J
 18.
I take it you're not still interested in trades? now have a Yamaha RBX5A2 available for trade too.
still thinking about it mate, could do with the cash, but still considering your Tanglewood Just seeing how ebay goes or a cash offer... will let you know
 19.
If it's an early one, this model is what later became the Thunder III - I own an almost mint 1984 Thunder III. The Westone Thunder III was the weapon of choice for Henry "King Thumb" Thomas in the BBC "Rockschool" TV series in the '80's and I can vouch for this bass being very good for the styles you mention. I was heavily into Level 42 when I bought my Thunder III, as I reckoned it had a few visual similarities to the Jaydees MK was playing at the time, without carrying the same price tag, which was out of my league! I don't slap much with my own Thunder III these days, but soloing the J pickup at the bridge gives a fingerstyle tone that's hard to beat and overall the tones available from this bass are very versatile. You mention that the bass you've been offered has 2 Precision pickups - I'm pretty sure only 1 was fitted as standard - unless you're maybe referring to the 2 "halves" of the Precision pickup? These basses came from Japan's legendary Matsumoku factory and were quality instruments made from good materials. Good examples are becoming harder to find, but secondhand prices (in my view) don't do that as much justice as it deserves. Typically, these change hands for £250 - £350 on Ebay, which is the main reason I've held onto mine since buying it new in 1985. I hope the above helps a bit, but also check out www.westone.info which is a mine of information on these basses.
Cheers for all the info, I've checked the website and actually emailed Henry Thomas too - never know, might get a reply! Thanks again for all the help J
 20.
Henry Thomas with his Westone
Thanks for that, I remember watching that with my old man as a kid Sounds like you could dial alot more out of that bass, almost like a Fernandes Fab170 - the Alembic copy one anyway. Looks like it might be a better choice than a newer yamaha tbr1004, or others!! If I get that one, you'll soon be seeing it on youtube!! Sound also reminds me of Paul Tubbs Williams sound early 80's ish... I think he used Aria, Musicman and maybe a precision... Check out Light Of The Worlds Soho to hear that Musicman sing!! J

 22. Hi all, I've been offered a Westone Thunder 2a active from the early 80's, it has a jazz pick up and 2 precisions and plenty of switches! Can anyone tell me about these basses, sound wise ? I play alot of Jazz-Funk and funk, alot of Mark King style slap & fingerstyle - will thbis be any good for that? I use 30-90's normally so I should be able to get a brighter tone, but is the bass any good?? Also, whats it worth?? Any help or sound links would be appreciated, theres nothing on youtube about this bass!! Thanks
