  1. I don't do any deps without prep time and a decent fee (unless there are multiple events I'm needed for with the same band).

It saves me hours of short notice stress for little reward and, most importantly, I always like to do the songs (and band I'm depping with) justice....

  2. A general thanks to the majority of contributors to this thread for engaging thoughtfully and honestly in the spirit I originally posted it. It's made for an interesting read and I am reassured at the moral compasses of most of you.

Not sure what more can be said, so Mods - I think we can probably close this now as we're getting off topic, arguing interpretation of law etc.

You need to go back and read the thread. Other posters referenced shouting at asylum hotels  ect. as a benchmark of the unacceptable. That's why I mentioned it.

You need to go back and read the thread. YOU mentioned 'band mates' shouting at hotels. Noone else has mentioned that at all.

But anyway.... back to hearing the views of more of our bellow bass brethren...

You can post whatever you like. Others can respond.

Have a lot of people out there had a problem with band mates joining the throng outside asylum hotels with the aim of intimidating the residents? Has anyone, and what if they did?

But at least now we know we have a prescribed position on  this matter.

    Point missed, as usual...

The only person talking about bandmates shouting at hotels is you. This discussion is much wider and more nuanced than that, but again your use of sarcasm betrays you....

Is musicians shouting abuse at asylum hotels a thing nowadays? Is it a problem many of you are actually encountering? I expect not. But at least now we know that you're against that kind of thing.

Were I a recently-arrived Albanian or Afghan youth anxious to be granted Leave To Remain just knowing that the amateur bass players of Britain were,by and large, on my side would,no doubt, be a source of great comfort. Maybe someone on Basschat could come up with a funky little ditty, preferably without any slapping in it though,(too aggressive, might trigger PTSD ect) we could  somehow send to these poor souls. They could listen to it to drown out the sound of the lynch mob outside.

Not sure what, if anything, this post is trying to contribute apart from sarcasm?

Like anything, if you want to get on with people you seemingly need to allow them to have opinions and they should be able to accept if you agree or disagree too. Having said that, if the music becomes politically portrayed that way then no way!

Interesting response and this is kinda the crux of the question so thanks for that. It presents an interesting dilemma...

How important are our own personal moral compasses/opinions and should we just try to get along, accepting others' opinions (even if they may be repulsive to us)?

For me, my moral compass won't allow me to 'get along' with someone who holds such abhorrent opinions....

  7. The world, as we know, is a volatile place right now with everyone (myself included) taking sides....

I'm interested to know, if you found out that an existing bandmate, or potential bandmate, was e.g. racist, homophobic, fascist etc.... would it make you reconsider working with them?

Lets not turn this thread overtly political or into a slanging match if we can help it (this isn't Talk Bass) but I'm genuinely interested in people's thoughts.

I'm not talking Labour voter/Conservative voter stuff here...... but, personally, I'm not sure that I could share a car/splitter/dressing room/stage with someone with far right or homo/transphobic views. I would need to call it out and that kind of drama would kill the band.

I have been in musical situations where another musician is a full-on 'conspiracy-theorist' and I have simply turned off from listening to them or changed the subject rapidly, but I couldn't do that in the above situation.

  8. The V3 Rumble 100 is great for practice and small gigs. For larger club gigs I'd go straight to the 800 though. It has an output power attenuation switch for low or full power, according to your performance situation, aiding with a solid tone at all levels.

Part of the reason the V3's sound so good is they took on some of the tech they acquired when Fender purchased (and sadly disposed of) the fab Genz Benz company.
