Thinking of having a total bass cull!
stingrayPete1977 replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in Bass Guitars
He has only actually got one or two Classic Ray 5s and a Mayones Jabba I like the look of, no Laklands and not much in the way of 5 string G&L either. -

Probably the main reason for keeping at least one! -

Fees paid, Jazz listed....going to have some dinner and a good think about possible other listings later! keeping the Rays is probably a good idea but the black one is staying anyway 100% as its worth more to me than I could sell it for anyway unless I can track down the original owner who still has its fretless neck with colour matched headstock! -
Cant change the original price now but the new price is £275, thanks. Hi relisted as I let the advert slip when the fees came in and wasn't too fussed at the time but I dont play it live anymore as I really am a five string player these days. Affinity Squier Jazz Bass but with the following alterations; Bartolini pickups, EBS active preamp hidden in cavity Vol-Treble-Bass-Pan controls, Jack socket mounted in body to retain standard 4 hole Jazz control plate, Genuine Fender scratch plate, Badass II bridge, Full size open tuner to replace the stock smaller ones Squires of this type had, Fret edges have been dressed into a nicely rounded edge rosewood finger board, Ebay Fender Logo This bass plays and sounds brilliant, done loads of gigs with it over about three or four years and never missed a beat, the parts alone are worth more than my asking price and the total build cost without any labour fees was around £500. It has a few light swirls and soft dinks but nothing major. Ideally I would like either cash on collection or meet half way from Stafford depending on the deal/distance. Any questions or specific pics please ask as I know I will have forgotten something
Tough one this Pete. I have had similar thoughts about all of my basses at one time or another and even more so with a new GB Rumour only a matter of weeks away! Bottom line is that they can probably all be replaced again if you feel you missed them. There seems to be a lot of Pre EB's about at the moment and some nice ones too. To complicate things more I may think of moving on my Classic 5! I bought it because it looked great and I wanted a 5 string version of my pre EB like you and also it was built the day before my son was born so I thought it would be great thing to have for sentimental reasons but god only knows if he would ever really want it as he is only 2! Bottom line is that I can't see much of a reason to have two 5 strings as well as the others. Still I guess we should all be thankful that we are lucky enough to have too many basses!
I know, these are first world problems arent they? GB weeks away or Bernie Weeks away? -
Your blue SR5 - can you PM me some pics? Ta. CB
Actually you can see me mime with it here to the singer playing a Tony Levin OLP Ray (this was the demo track) You can hear it here though as I played the bassline on the finished track, listen to the place in your memory (the featuring Majika one is best IMO but either version is me playing), check out around 2 mins 20 for some Alnico parallel Ray goodness https://soundcloud.com/#davebarronband -
So how do I list something for sale then?
I did mine by Paypal Pete
Just as a donation though or a specific link? I had only just paid a £5 donation and a £10 donation days before the fee came in, in fact the £10 might of been after as I did not even know about it -

Got my £20 here gathering dust, first mod with a pm gets it -
I know this came up in the latest repeat discussion about fees but how do you pay them, why is there no clear link for any new members etc and does anyone want to buy my modded Squier Jazz bass?
Pete, fwiw, the SR5 pi5535 all over the Lakky......in my very humble opinion of course ;-)
You are just biased like me
Also.....there is no such thing as 'the one' some days you're a Status person sometimes a MM flats your boat, we're a contrary bunch. Hang on to your preeb you'll only regret it down the line. All it asks is that you pick it up occasionally.
I know, I know..... -

Multi quote went mad had to chop it up a bit 'TRBboy' Order a Custom spec Sandberg Basic Ken Taylor 5 and have a load of change left! Nice bass but the change will only get spent on some crap for the house or something, losing a pre EB Ray and a 2010 SR5 for some curtains and stuff will upset me forever! 'uncle psychosis' Do it. I'm definitely coming round to the "one bass plus a backup" point of view. Get one great bass and play the crap out of it I had that with the pre EB Ray and was very happy until I switched to 5 strings for someone elses project for a couple of years, now I only want 5! Arghh 'ambient' I've got 7 basses and I'm planning on buying 2 more this summer, so I vote keep them all . I have fond memories of basses that I've sold and wish that I hadn't. A pre EB Stingray is close to top of my list of 'some day I will own' basses, together with a '77 Jazz and a '60's Precision. Well I did have 4 Stingrays until a few months ago with plans to buy a Classic Ray 5 aswell taking me to 5 Rays spanning '79 '82 '07 '10 '13 double bass put an end to that and jeez is DB an expensive hobby! 'chris_b' If you're considering a USA 55-94 I'd also look at the Skylines in the FS section. They look pretty good and will sound and play just as good as a US model. Possibly as an aswell as, I would not want to sell my pre EB or Ray 5 to fund a Skyline even though they are as well made as an EBMM for less dosh. 'bubinga5' its great having one bass. its just finding the ONE that is versatile enough and your happy with. the Lakland will tick most boxes imo TBF my black SR5 probably already is that bass, my latest band covers the Beatles cant buy me love through to No Doubts Just a girl and it really is all in the fingers 'thisnameistaken' I'm sure the Laklands are nice basses but they don't look very inspiring. I would agree it looks like the stingray classic 5 is perhaps the ideal bass for you, but my god how much are they ripping people off with those things. I would work hard to find something else just to avoid giving EB any money. I think the trans blue looks the nuts but you are probably right, Classic5 should be the right bass looking at the facts. 'Old Horse Murphy' I'm selling one Dont I just know it! -

In parallel as normal either from two amp outputs or linked cab to cab the impedance halfs hence most people have a pair of 8 ohm cabs and a 4 ohm minimum head, in series the impendances are added up so you would get 8 ohms which if all the amp gurus on here are correct then the fact your head is running at 8 ohm rather than 4 won't matter a jot but double the amount of cabs will, a lot! Plus you can always get 4 4x12 cabs and another series box for some 16x12 action Depending on your cabs you could put a switch on them to make the cabs series wired taking them up to 8 ohm then use them as normal giving the head a 4 ohm load.
Yeah get rid of em all. f*** it. They're only 'things' aren't they? Easily replaceable and you'll end up trying other basses that you never thought you ever would before! Get a BB2025 or a Dingwall. Go mental! Truckstop
I'm pretty certain it will be in my op list you know, been thinking for a while and even toyed with selling a couple so I could spend more on my double bass, sold my 79 ray to fund it in the end which was a shame as it was a nice bass with a few quid in it. -
I can't really be very useful in advice, as I play neither of these basses, but I will post a blog about my Mayones workshop visit a few days ago, next week.
Looking forward to it
