1. What is the model of your head? Can you post some pics of it so we can see what´s happening with it? I find it very strange to have so much fan noise... i had two TE amps and none had that issue. You can always buy a original spare fan from britishaudioservice (in USA):
    http://www.britishaudioservice.com/shop_trace_fans.shtml

    Good luck with it :)

  2. I have a significant number of pedals but the ones i wouldn't leave at home are my tuner (korg pitchblack) and my compressor (ebs multicomp) but i think i would still bring my auto-wah (3leaf audio) to funky things up.

  3. Post pics of it. Your description can mean a lot of things. I'm no even shure you're talking of a cab or a combo :) . More seriously, there is a huge amount of TE owners and previous ones around here. With pics would be faster to get a reply and a more accurate too.
    Cheers

Edit: from your first description i would bet on a 1048H cab:

    300W @ 8 Ohm with horn attenuator

    Is this the one?

  4. I would like to replace the bridge on my SR5 with one with the mutes on but mailed Sterling and got ansewered that they don´t do replacements and it woudn´t fit too well in my bass.
Since that conversation they released the new Classic series 'Rays and both have the mutes back again so i'm tempted to let my SR5 go and grab a Classic 'Ray 5!
I agree that the original bridge is very good and hard to improve so not many people trying to build replacements, the only ones i saw for sale were chinese-made ones that wouldn't even have quality to fit a MM-copy :)

  5. I think the best bass i'll ever get is the one i don't own... the GAS keeps comming!

More seriously, a few years back i would say a Stingray or a TRB-5PII but having both now i've tried and liked very much a Ken Smith bass. I've tried it aginst a Fodera and it crushed it easily (*runs for cover!). If i had a Ken Smith instead i'm pretty shure i would be GASing for the TRB though...
I've also tried a Alembic 6-string and loved it. Both tries were too far appart in time to get a good comparison with the K Smith.

Just one last note to a make nobody mentioned yet - Jerzy Drodz - great top-end basses!

  6. Every time i come to this thread i find myself scrolling back to this picture i've posted earlier

I think it sums everything up! It's ridiculous how they look next to each other!

51m0n, i've seen that a few weeks back, how could i have forgotten about it! :)

    Edit: some personal comments added!

  7. I'm going to get more insight on the SVT series now. I just had a offer to trade my TE 1215 GP12-X for an Ampeg SVT 410HE and some cash. I'll do it because there are lots of people who still think Ampeg is "The Holly Grail" of sound and i'll be able to sell it quite easily. In my opinion Ampeg muddys the sound a lot and lacks definition having poor air displacement (that's why you see so many fridges, the only way you can get close to be heard in a band). As soon as possible i'll go to Alex's cabs.

As for the "all-valve real thing tone" i think that Sadowsky posted some pages back would hammer the SVP to a pulp. If you like SVT's valve tone just get a lightweight amp (can´t recommend the shuttle 9.0 enough, it also has a valve in it's pre :) ) and add a Sansamp VT Bass. Will do a better job on your sound abling you to dial in all kinds of sounds including SVT's with better definition, better cutting trough the mix, more respect from your band mates who'll stop complaining they only can hear the bass on stage and can't even understand what you're playing - they'll also find out that you can actually play the bass and are good at it, less ear problems, less back problems, easier to carry, easier to set your rig up, easier to store it in your car, cheaper too, etc... !

Oh! 18 pages in a little more than 2 days is trully a man's job!

    Cheers

  8.
Hmm, the sound samples on the net do nothing for me, but perhaps you could send me some more convincing ones?

Also, is the power supply included, because this unit seems to draw a lot of current...
The power supply shown in the picture is included. I don't have any sound samples but i can try to record something altough i only have a standart sound card with no instrument plugggins. The one thing i can assure you is that the samples you can find on the web aren't even close to what this pedal can do. It can go from a boost in your signal or a mild drive to full-on fuzz. The tone can be tailored to taste with the high/low-pass knobs.

It's a very good pedal, i'm only letting it go because it's a bit big for my pedalboard and i'm in the process of simplifying it so only 9V for me.
Once i can make something decent i'll let you know altough it would be better if you had somewere where you could try it by yourself.

    Cheers

Edit: What kind of sound are you looking for so i can try to record something so you can compare it against your TF. Can you send me a sample. I'll leave you my comtact by PM.

  9. Oh my God! They're spawning and invading the surroundings... we better get a pest-controller to try to contain this menace! :)

To the OP: Listen to Mottlefeeder, my opinion is also to maintain the air flowing from the outside to inside unless you can come up with something close to what the fan in a PC does to it's processor. I had a Behringer BX1200 and it had 2 fans, one inside cooling the heatsink pulling air away from it and other on the chassis pulling out that same air.

  10.
I've got a solid state amp. And it's not class D or small. That's all.

My db750 will blow most valve amps out of the water!

my eden head has more knobs on than most valve amps

my superbass is the loudest 100 watt head you'll ever hear :)

My one speaker transistor combo is also really heavy!

My solid state amp is the loudest bass amp in my house. FACT!
I have a Trace Elliot 1x15" combo...

  11. I like to have a valve in my pre but i think my heart couldn't last longer if every time i was playing i was scared that a power valve could blow up... but with solid state there's the same fear with fuses... it all comes down to personal taste, i also like Ampeg sound for a few (realy, realy few) applications but don't let the OP know about this!

  12. In my GP12X combo there is no exit grill for the air! It comes out of the EQ's slides tears. Here's some pics:
    http://picasaweb.google.com/10657284609143...231183298746082
The air that does'n comes out from the grill on either side of the vent is pushed troug the front pannel. Some ether models have grills in both sides of the front pannel.

Either way the vent is very quiet and i never had overheating problems.

  13. Here's a preview from my idea in my first post in this topic:

  14.
IMO go with the supertwelve - its absolutely killer!
Now your GASing me... i had my mind just set to settle for the Midget cause i dont need more power than i can get with this setting and the lower small/weight would be handy. I'm having second thoughts... again... :)

  15. Not much to say after 8 pages of chearfull chit chat so i'll post my middle of the road rig...

I'm using a Trace Elliot GP12-X (300 TE's W) amp with both 2x10"H and 1x15" cabs and i can assure anybody that it is capable to throw the SVT back to beginning of the road... more defined and better balanced sound BUT still a tad too boomy for me. Oh!... and i'm playing with a TRB-5PII and a SR5, and better not start with the pedalboard...

Entering in my 30ies i'm in the process of getting me a nice and light GB Shuttle 9.0 and a Barefaced cab (Midget T or Supertwelve T) to spare my back. I know it is not full-on-valve but i would like to hear that rig side by side with the SVT/Fridge rig, hehe! It would give a nice photo too :)

  16.
Good score; the Doubler is a great head.

Surely it's worth spending a bit to get something decent to keep a £500 amp in?

    How about one of these?

    Cheers

    Gareth
Thats exactly what i tried to explain. I think it would be the best and safer bet.

  17. If you don't want to carry it in the outer pocket of your gigbag you can get one of those tool aluminium briefcases and get a nice piece of foam cutted in size to stuff it in wich you could cut the shape of the doubler to fit it. Something like this (but in the right context):
