    When I read the title I thought it was going to be an in-depth observation on people you've never met and/or don't know...but alas not!

    I think the cliche response is something like “chance would be a fine thing”?

    Don't get me started! As a former music shop owner I have a real problem with the concept that once something has spent a nanosecond hung up on the shop wall it becomes ex-demo, and yet everyone loves the idea of being able to try new stuff out. Funnily enough I dien't last very long in that game - it would have been fine without the punters 🤔

    My favourite when I worked in the shop was a bloke who literally smashed the headstock off another guitar (accidentally) when trying it out, went off to have lunch and think, and then came back with “it’s ex demo, so what’s the best price you can give me?” 🤣

  3. We all know it goes on, but never really give it much thought. We turn a blind eye and pretend it’s not happening. It’s almost taboo to mention... yesterday I broke that rule and seem to have created a significant divide between myself and a very good friend (who is also a bassist), by muttering three small words... “I played that!”

    My friend had just bought a new MIM Fender Player series precision bass that had been sat in our local music store for a while. It’s in excellent condition and he finally bit the bullet and bought it, before bombarding me with pics and messages about how it was the bass of his dreams and that he was ‘in love’

    Once I muttered ‘I played that... it was a really nice bass’ it seems like he is treating me like the guy his partner cheated with. Even though 6/7 other locals players commented saying the same thing. Surely he realised that other people have touched it!? That it gets passed around a lot in a shop. Even strangers!

    Anyone else been on the receiving end of this? Anyone else feel it’s justified?

    Just trying to understand the mindset 🤣

    My point was to do with them describing it as a US Fender

    It’s also a pretty bad attitude to have to just bung it on a website with a poor description and make no effort to improve its condition to improve the chances of the sale.

    You’d have thought they’d offer some expertise and say “maybe if you did X, Y and Z you’d have a better chance of it moving” (ie getting a nicer fit on the neck etc)

    Looks like they licensed the headstock shape, assume Charvel are owned by Fender (or by whoever owns Fender)? Made in Mexico so I guess if you joined the dots...

    Quite like the look of this:

    Yup, Fender acquired Charvel in 2002!

    The fender Flea Jazz is nitro finish too.

    Frank.

    Yeah but I just always think of that as in the Road Worn series. Same with the JMJ signature. Just Road Worn series spec with some more specific features and a player’s name 🙂

    My fender us 62 RI was a nitro finish , I paid quite a lot for my one but you do see them occasionally come up for around the £1200 mark

    This looks like an American Vintage model, which has been updated as the current ‘American Original’ 🙂

    Just a short one but are there any Jazz basses that come up under £1000ish with a nitro finish, preferably in sunburst. I've seen the old classic series 60s fenders fit this criteria but are there any MIJ options or maybe even american? I was looking at the vintera 60s J bass but a nitro finish and rosewood board would be a massive plus

    Pretty sure the only models/ranges with a nitro finish in the current range are;

    MIM Classic ‘60s Lacquer (there’s a non-lacquer version too sI you have to specifically choose this)

    MIM Road Worn

    American original series (MIA)

    Normally, the MIJ models don’t come in Nitro finish (there are some specials etc that did, but they’re difficult to get new) BUT, there is a company in Poland who refinish MIJ Fenders (stock and custom requests) in Nitro finishes of varying styles (NOS to heavy relic). I’ve played a few of their instruments and the quality of their work is STUNNING and would come in below £1000. Example here;

    Hope it helps!

    Oooh! Mystery potentially solved. That looks lovely.

    Yes and no. Maybe we know if it’s shiny, but I just assumed the ‘red’ would be like the previous one but this appears to be sparkly, like Candy Apple Red. If so, it’ll be a tough decision!

    Well, for a start, that’s a gloss finish but the photo Andy posted earlier (with both the red and blue in the same picture) appears to be more of a matte/satin finish. What the hell is going on here??

    I think that’s just the angle/lighting playing tricks. I don’t think Epiphone ever offered a matte finish on a Jack Casady so it’ll be weird if they start now with only one colour in the range!

    Is the web address to find out about a headless Ibanez REALLY headstockdistribution.com???

    Yup, they are the UK distributor for Ibanez. Also absolutely useless, so not surprising that they didn’t spot the humour in this when submitting it!

    Unless they are doing a version where a clear coat on top has yellowed slightly- similar to how lake placid blue can go turquoise on old basses

    Unfortunately I don’t think they will be. Gibson only use nitro coats on Gibsons. Epiphones usually have poly finishes and most of the time they stay well clear of tinted yellow and it won’t naturally yellow with age either.
