1. Bought a cab of Yorick, good guy to deal with and very friendly. Cheers. Gareth
2. Bought Clarky's Barefaced Vintage cab off him, top bloke, even let us park in his drive while I took the Mrs round London for a day out. Cheers again. Gareth

4. can you give us the actual dimennsions of both pickups in mm by any chance?
5.
Yup, that's why I'm not fitting them to my jazz! I know they'd sound great if I did. I have actually toyed with the idea of just buying a cheap squier body to load them into, if they don't sell I might just do this. By the way are you sure they're a different size to the mk1s? Don't forget the bridge and neck pups are different lengths.
Hang on I'll check...
6.
I found they had a lot more grind at the top end, with corresponding greater clarity (found the barts a bit muddy and indistinct). I certainly didn't lose anything at the bottom though, they are big-sounding pickups. In fact I felt the low E sounded both tighter and deeper. It's always hard to know for sure unless you back-and-forth between them a few times, but I was clear that I preferred the Nordys, they just sounded more 'full-range'. That's probably not a very helpful description, but it's hard to articulate these things!
That's good to know, you seem to be hearing the same things as me on the on the barts at least which is why I wanted to change them. I don't know why but for some reason they have put a shorter pickup in the btb so these would need a bit of routing doing to fit them, if you still have them when I have the money and someone to do the routing I may be interested. Big desision taking a router to my bass though so I'll let you know. cheers Gareth
7. how did these compare to the barts in your ibanez sound wise? I'm thinking about chucking some in my btb but will have to some minor routing to fit them so want to be sure its what I'm after first.
8.
Gareth, check this cab out...... Not sure of the power handling, but the price is great!!! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=104606
Seems there's a fair bit of decent stuff around for not much money, also seems I might get a better deal not bothering with the lightweightness of things. When I get paid at the end of the month I'll have to see what oppertuinities like that are still available.
9.
If you can get down to London I have a Barefaced Vintage 2x15 that would match perfectly and at a really good saving from new (£475 including new padded cover, v £700 new). Check it out in the FS section. Edit: here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=105995. Its too big to post unfortunately
Ah!!!! that's really tempting, I reckon you'll have shifted it by the time I've raised the funds though. How did you find the sound with the orange head? Obviously a different beast to the terror but same preamp I thought?
10. I know there's already a million of these threads and I have read many already. Just got an orange terror bass 500w head with the intention of saving for a decent cab and practising at home through a cheap 1x15 (thanks to yorick) while the band is not gigging. I have read alot of good things about the barefaced stuff and I did have it in my head that the big one or super 12 might be what I'm after. I don't want to rush into buying a cab that I can't actually go to a shop and try first though so I was hoping for a few suggestions for other cabs to go with this head. My requirements are punchy and deep sounding as well as very loud (for the 500w going in). My bass really growls trough this head and I would like to keep that element of the sound intact. Definitely only want one cab but thanks to the oranges design it can be 8 or 4ohm. I was hung up on getting something lightweight but to be honest so long as it's a one man job moving it and it will go in the back of a car with back seats down I'm pretty flexible, was thinking of a good 4x10 maybe. Playing rock mostly on an ibanez btb. As for stuff I've tried already, didn't get on with the orange sp cabs and am not a huge fan of ashdown stuff either. I demoed this head through an ampeg 4x10 which was pretty nice but I didn't try and move it so it could weigh more than the moon for all I know -anyone tried getting one of these in and out of the back of a car on their own? Is it even possible? Budget is about £700, anything else new or second hand I should look out for at or less than that price? If anyone around derby kind of area has one of the barefaced cabs I mentioned and would be willing to let me try it I would be glad to hear from you. Gareth
11. I picked one of these up recently to use as a backup, it's a nice bass actually, nice and bright and punchy. I am considering selling it as it's not getting used at all at the moment and I could do with the cash to go towards a barefaced cab. Am really conflicted though as I really like the sound of it, nearly as much as some basses two or three times as expensive or highly regarded. Would definitely recommend giving one a try to anyone.
12.
I bought this stack as a spare 6 months ago and have used it a couple of times. The head is in 9/10 condition with a small mark on the top of the unit. It is only a minor scratch. The cab has the general wear on the bottom of it but is vertually mint barring this. I'll put pics up when I get home. Cheers Jim 07739969811
Will you split? If so how much for the head?
13. I came to the same conclusion about 5 stringers, I only get on with the sr5 and the ibanez btb 5 stringers. As I already have a 4 string btb that I love I reckon my next purchase is going to have to be the mm to have some variety in my life.
14. Was recently looking at the exact same bass I suspect for exactly the same reasons. I agree with the other person who has played its post, would just add that the low b was horribly flappy. To be fair I think this is a jazz bass thing because I had the same opinion of a £1200 fender american deluxe 5 string.
15. Right, up for sale is my 300W Ashdown combo and extension cab as per the title. They are both the carpeted versions as opposed to the newer vinal type. The combo is about 5 months old and both it and the extension cab have seen very little use (a few months practicing twice a week, a little home use and 3 or 4 gigs from new for the combo and as a backup by it's previous owner for the 1x15). The only thing that betrays this rigs appearance is one of the plastic feet on the combo has partially come off - it's at the back and can't be seen from the front and the part of the foot that it sits on is intact so does not affect stability. I am selling for a number of reasons: 1. am moving house and could do with one less thing to shift 2. band is in a mess without a drummer at the moment so it won't be getting used over the next few months 3. I want something a bit louder/lighter/more compact as I'm selling my van and my rig is going to have to go in the Mrs' puma when we do get going again It's been pretty solid in the time I've had it, no issues whatsoever, if I'm completely honest it's just not the sound I'm after though. Looking for £370 for both but will split if the amp goes first. If splitting I'd like £270 for the combo or a swap for a Hartke LH500 head, if that goes I'm looking for £100 for the cab. Will also consider other swaps for various heads so try me. Collection preferred, if you happen to be on my way somewhere in the van I might be able to meet/deliver so ask me. Pics tomorrow, it's late.... cheers Gareth
16.
Been thinking about this one since my last posting. The drummer's behaviour does seem rather extreme. Gareth, do you have any ideas about; - HIS view of what the problems were ? - Was he provoked in any way (however minor the provokations may have been in your eyes) on the last night (i.e. a bit of biting at his edges by other band members for leaving? carry -overs from past differences of opinion ?) I only ask this as from what is written on this thread, his behaviour just doesn't add up when you reflect on it Good luck finding a suitable replacement T
Funny, we have all been pondering this point since it happened. Basically what he originally told us was that he didn't want to do originals anymore and just wanted to do covers and form a functions band. He also had a few reservations about whether our singer would stick around after his baby was born. But he made a point of saying that he didn't want to fall out with anyone and that it isn't personal. I for one think those reasons are fair enough from his point of view which is why I say he had our blessing if he wanted to leave. As far as past differences of opinion go none were really voiced at all, you would think if he was harbouring some negativity to anyone based on his reasoning it would be the singer but on the night of the gig he seemed to want to pick a fight with the guitarist most of all and was arsey with all of us, makes no sense at all. In terms of something we could have done I have no idea, I mean we all tried to be friendly and positive when he showed up and didn't even mention the t shirt he was wearing and the fact he was an hour late, thinking back I reckon he was trying to get one of us to kick off with him before the gig so he could have an excuse to walk. I know he's got a whole bunch of other stuff going on at home and I suspect he's taking it out on us but he would never talk about it which is his choice I guess. Bit of a mystery to all of us and your right it doesn't add up, if he had kicked off with the singer about the things he had mentioned before then that would have made sense. He's got right confrontational on facebook today and his Mrs has also been chiming in all over the place telling three different people three different stories about why she was crying at the gig. Going to have a meeting with the others tomorrow and figure out what we do next, might give this drummer from last night a call, might wait till everyones cooled down before trying to find a replacement, don't want to make a rash decision at an emotional moment.
17. Text from my mate: "HA HA how do you storm out as a drummer? all that kit to pack up" My reply: "yeah was an awkward 45 minutes" oh how we laughed.
18. Cheers for the words of support, none of us are any wiser as to why he did it all though I have a far out theory involving two of the WAGs which will never be proven. For those who were wondering he is'nt (at least in terms of years) a stroppy teenager he's like mid to late 30's and we all have a fair few gigs under our belt and would know better, wouldn't have thought it though, he's kicking off on facebook now. I'm off to play with mountain bikes now rather than rise to it, got nothing to say to him. If anyone knows a drummer looking for a band in the Mansfield/Notts/Derby area PM me. Established band with own rehearsal space, about a 50/50 split covers and originals mainly rock/indie stuff like Foos and Killers.
19. So has this type of thing happened to anyone? I have just got in from what had the potential to be the gig from hell and turned into the best gig I've ever played. Some background - last week our drummer said that he wasn't happy and wanted to leave, we had a talk with him and he agreed to play a paid gig we had lined up before he went. All was well, he gave some reasons for leaving that were fairly sensible and he had our blessing, he was fairly apologetic about the whole thing and said he didn't want to upset anyone and - I quote - "valued us all as friends". So he's agreed to do this gig so as not to get us blacklisted at the venue and do us a favour, fair enough. Night of the gig he turns up an hour late and doesn't speak to anyone wearing a t-shirt that says "band needs a drummer". We get through the first half of the set and you can see he's not interested. We go for the halftime break and he again doesn't talk to anyone. As we get back on the stage he announces he is'nt playing one of the songs in our set. Our guitarist is all "woah, what's up dude?" and without saying anything he just starts packing up his kit and leaves mid gig. It's all a bit embarressing for us really, frontman gets on the mike and apologises for the drummers departure, we then go and speak to the venue owner who is supportive and asks us if we will just get up and do a shortened accoustic set. The place is packed and the audience is being really supportive, couple of people come over and offer thier sympathys and voice thier opinions on our drummers behaviour. We do an accoustic set to finish the show, just completely improvised, I was getting a bit of a percussive thing going on with the bass and the other two guys did a cracking job with the acoustic guitars, everyone got involved and really got into it, we had singing along and dancing, the lot. I have never played to a crowd so happy to be seeing a band play thier stuff, and have never had so many people come up after a gig and congratulate us. So I guess the jokes on him really, all things considered night went pretty well and was easily the most fun I've had on stage. of course the need to recruit a new drummer now is the only fly in the ointment but we got the number of one guy who volanteered his services after the gig. Sure I'm not the only one who has unexpectedly had a great time when something that would otherwise be terrible has occured on stage.
20. Wow, alot of love for the Hartke stuff! will have to find one to have a play through and see for myself. I've been looking at cabs to pair it up with, mainly just ebay and on here at the minute, there seems to be alot of stuff rated less than 500w and lots more than 1000w floating around but not alot in the middle (guessing it's because cabs rated between 500 and 1000w are the ones most people hang onto?). Iv'e noticed alot of hartke cabs appearing in various places, anyone have any experience with them? was thinking something like a 4x10, possibly a good match to the lh500? Had a look at those barefaced cabs, looks like those guys know thier stuff, is there anywhere around the midlands that stocks it that I might be able to see for myself? Same for everything that has been suggested for that matter, anyone who has a good range of hartke stuff that I can try. Think I should make clear the £500 budget is to cover amp and cab, might stretch a bit further if I get a decent price for my ashdown but I'm not holding my breath on that front. Any other companies that make a 4x10 that sounds good, is rated at 500w+ and that I am likely to find for around the £300 mark? EDIT: just read that the lh500 is 500w into 4ohms so a 4 ohm 4x10 preferably
