This must be a good instrument - I have a Ken Smith BT6G 3 knobber from 1990 and it's a great instrument - I love that bass! By the way, is there any chance you would be interested in trades?

    Yamaha BB's
Like this?..............
Hmmm - looks IDENTICAL to my BB3000s - I LOVE that bass. Easiest bass to play - even I sound good on it! I've got a BB2000 and a BB5000 as well. Amazing basses - these '80s BBs!
  3.
Does no one fancy my BeBe?
OOOOoooooohhhhh YEAH! I certainly would LOVE to get that BB Baby!!! Those BB basses are great! If I didn't already own a BB3000s, I would have bought this one already!
  4.
Interesting, both my BB3000 basses are about 1.75" (as are my pair of BB2000 basses and the BB1200 and BB1200s I used to have). I've only ever seen the narrow necks on BB3000s basses. It was certainly introduced with a wide nut and is still produced with a wide nut today. Can I ask how you dated them with the serial numbers? I've never been able to find an accurate reference to date some of my basses. The online Yamaha one doesn't seem to be too accurate, since it tells me I was playing a bass 2 years before it was manufactured. Are your basses stamped made in Japan?
I had the same problem with that other site. I have a BB3000s, but it said that the serial number was "invalid" - now I KNOW that this bass is a BB3000s, and it's made in Japan (stamped next to the serial number) so the serial number has GOT to be real! Here's the site where you can find the info: http://vintageguitarpro.com/serialyamaha.shtml Look on the site for: "Alternate serial number configurations for Yamaha Electric, Archtop, and Bass Guitars" Here's the info for some of the years listed: 1976 38105-39943 (SG-175, SX-125) 1001-1390 (SG1000) 1001-1126 (SG2000) 1977 001391-002365 (SG1000) 001251-002610 (SG2000) 001001-001270 (BB1200) 001271-001320 (BB2000) 1978 002366-003110 (SG1000) 002611-003760 (SG2000) 001321-002965 (BB1200) 002001-002380 (BB2000) 1979 003111-004445 (SG1000) 003761-005088 (SG2000) 002966-004000 (BB1200) 002381-002920 (BB2000) 1980 (through July) 004446-005329 (SG1000) 005081-005375 (SG2000) 1980 (through December) 013001-024215 1981 025410-059618 1982 059620-096639 1983 096640-126845 1984 (through July) 126846-146196 I hope that helps! OOPS - SORRY TO HIJACK THIS THREAD - BACK ON TOPIC: THESE BB5000 BASSES ARE GREAT! THIS BLACK ONE LOOKS JUST LIKE THE ONE I OWN AND IT IS GREAT!! Cheers! Dave
  5.
Thanks for the advice on this guys. Overlooked rosin - have had the same cake of Pirastro for a long time. Invested in a nice new (sticky) lump of "Pops" and things are much better!
I'm glad the Pops is working for you. For me - I always find Pops to be the best rosin - for about two minutes. Those low strings - ESPECIALLY the E string are very sluggish no matter what the bass, strings, rosin or technique. I recently observed a bass masterclass where the Master suggested - just for experimenting: holding the bow still and move the bass away from you - the bass will speak without any 'technique'. It works well - even the E string. I bet it will work on your bass, too - try it and see! Then, just move your arm instead of the bass. Cheeers!
  6.
That is one lovely bass, shame it's not a BB5000A or I'd have bitten your arm off - I've been looking for one of those since about 1989! Good luck with the sale though
Well - v8bass mentioned that the bass was originally a Passive BB, and he's added a preamp - so it would be VERY close to the BB5000A that you've been searching for. (The only difference between the BB5000 and the BB5000A is the active circuitry - which he has added).
