Cost of paper and transport/delivery becoming prohibitive for almost all publications.

I'd happily pay more though for a print edition as they are great for flights, a quick browse in the car before school pick-up, holiday reads etc.

My plan is to go back to early Bassist / Bass Player issues, and read them all again 😂

  2. For me, I run the following cab wise:

Small (Jazz etc) gigs = a single 1x10 (a GR AT110 carbon cab)

Med gigs (weddings, functions etc) = a single 2x10 (Mesa Subway 2x10)

Larger gigs (concert halls, festivals etc) = two 2x10s (Mesa Subway 2x10)

All light and portable, but I always have the mind-set of picking the right cabs for the gig.

I am more than happy with the cabs I have, and pretty much settled any "GAS" cab-wise.

The above probably doesn't help you directly though.....

What a pity about the sizing as it narrowly misses the EMG40 sizing (101.6 x 38.1 ) and that has plenty of options as to what's inside the housing.

Aguilar have the DCB G4 which is 38x102 (as is the EMG 40 sized casing)

Nordstrand will custom make anything you like.

What pickups do you have in it at the moment?

Currently running Kent Armstrongs at the moment since 2007. It's a shame that I can't go wider than 36 really, not without routing the body which I want to avoid.

The Delano SBC 5 string pickups I have in a Maruszczyk fretless are 100x36mm.

What Kent Armstrong ones are there? I was thinking of replacing mine, couldn’t find Barts that would fit. Do the Quads fit that size?

Not exactly sure - I will have a look underneath the pick-ups next time I restring.

Barts do a BD which look like they would fit.

What actual pickup type do you want in your "soapbars"?

Unlike on guitars where the "Soapbar" is a particular type of pickup - a fat single coil epitomised by the Gibson P90, in the bass world a soapbar cover can house anything that will fit inside. Knowing what type of pickup you want under than cover will help you to narrow down the choices.

Probably Similar to Bartolini Quads, but at this stage I want to see who does that size chassis, as the options seem a little limited for the size.

  5. I couldn't agree with you more. Whenever possible, I now try to purchase from physical stores rather than online. However, the problem is not always helped by the retailer, especially when stock (say of a pedal, for example) is only available online and no stock is available in your local store.

Sometimes the convenience and confidence factors of shopping online is too much of a pull to trump driving x number of miles just to find that the shop is out of stock etc.
