  2. GASing for a U.S. G&L L2000, anyone fancy a trade type bump?
  3. Sure is Luke, it's amazing. Doubt that would be the case if the brand name started with an 'S' or 'F' though eh?
  4. I was reading some of john's technical manuals recently (my valenti has a u-retro installed), and he suggests that you should treat your j-retro/u-retro volume control very much like a fader on a mixing desk, i.e. because of the quality of the circuitry and the fact the active signal will be buffered, turning up your volume control to 70% rather than 100% should solve the issue of the amp sounding too hot in passive mode, whilst preserving the tonal quality. Whether you decide to boost the individual pick preamps or not is up to yourself, either method should achieve the results you're after for this particular tc combo. If you encounter the same problem again in active mode (I.e. Too hot after pickup preamp boostage), just back off the volume knob a tad on the bass again. I have to admit, I couldn't handle the absence of a gain/pre knob on my amp, that's far too little control over headroom for my liking (especially if you're running an old passive bass straight into it!)!
  5. 'Oh how I'd love to trade this for the Lakland USA Bob Glaub Precision Bass in Vintage White that's listed in the forum right now' type bump!
  6. Hey Luke, The U-Retro, to my ears, has warmed up and/or brought out the natural tone of this bass far more than the Aguilar ever did. Passive mode sounds rich and creamy now, as opposed to the slightly 'sharper' sound of the bypassed OBP-1 (not sure what pots were in the cavity originally, but I didn't enjoy the passive tone too much and missed having a tone control to tame the 'open' brightness, which is now a problem solved!). I also found the OBP-1 pretty o.t.t. for practical use; the bass was too insane past 1/4 turn (but then again, this bass already has a naturally powerful low end), and the treble far too brittle for my liking. The U-Retro releases an ocean of bass without being cataclysmic, treble that remains smooth and musically airy when pushed hard and of course the amazing mid control that I like to fine tune to open harmonics to enhance their body and cut, which in turn adds extra beef to the low-mids simultaneously. The U-Retro has just upped the tonal quality for me, and no matter how hard you push it, it still sounds musical!
  7. No love for Valenti's indeed type bump
  8. It's running at 9v now as standard with the john East preamp Luke, and literally sounds night and day compared with the old aguilar obp-1! I think I still have the old pre and clip somewhere in the loft, but haven't missed it in the slightest
  9. Will be playing this at 'The Lanes' in Bristol on the 24th April if you want to hear it type bump!
  10. Hey guys, It really saddens me to be listing the bass again but alas, I'm a total Precision bass guy and just can't settle on jazz bass necks! Like so many other owners, I'm probably going to regret moving this one on as it literally sounds phenomenal. HUGE low end, massive tonal bandwidth in recording, very clear and articulate (thanks to the wonderful marriage of the recently installed U-Retro with the Nordstrand J4s). The Aguilar OBP-1 (original installed pre) sounded great, but I just craved the flexibility of a VTC and a mid control, hence the U-Retro upgrade. Since installing the U-Retro, the bass has upped it's game once again tonally, with a vast array of different sounds available as you can imagine. The build quality on this bass is outstanding, one of the tightest neck pocket I've come across, with a lovely low action and effortless neck. A truly wonderful example of how a bass should be constructed, but not surprising considering Nino Valenti worked for Roger Sadowsky for years before starting his own line of basses! I've popped on a Hipshot Xtender key in place of the original E machine head and the bass was setup by Chris McIntyre at McIntyre guitars in Edinburgh as well. A few, 'been gigged' dings on the finish that I've tried to photograph as best as I could, but nothing major. 11. I'll 3rd that. Severely underrated and under appreciated on this forum. Insane amount of bass for the money, like many members have said, you're literally getting sadowsky NYC sound and build quality at a 3rd (or less!) of the brand new price. Just stuck a J-East U-Retro in my no.42 recently and it's literally opened up yet another dimension of tonal nirvana. 'Super jazz' defined, with so much low end already resonating from the instrument that I never need more than 4-5 db of bass boost in active mode as it gets too insane! Someone buy this beautiful instrument (and Scuba_Demons!) and let's start getting a proper buzz going about the Valenti name on here!
  12. Brilliant pedal (have it in my effects loop on my amp 9 times out of 10), and a great price. The Character knob is an amazing pot, so many tones per micro turn!
  13. Just bought a John East U-Retro deluxe pre off of Jo yesterday. Very fair deal, great communication and super quick delivery, deal with in confidence folks! Cheers! Ross
  14. Thanks guys! 'If only someone with a Valenti P Bass fancied a Valenti Jazz for a direct swap' type bump!
