vintage hofner

Yup, that was the real deal, and that price was easily the lowest I've seen in five years of watching.

That's a beautiful bass and, apart from the two knobs, could easily be all-original. The chrome on the tailpiece is suspiciously clean, but this might just be a bass that's been well cared for. The one-piece back is period correct for 1964/65 (exactly like mine) and the wear to the headstock looks right. The neck appears to have the re-set done properly, too.

If I was flush I might well have had a punt on that (I've been watching it since the hour it was listed) but in that case it wouldn't have gone for £719, of course.

Someone has just done VERY well. Properly listed, he could sell that for >£1000 tomorrow.

Or even keep it and play it. :)

No, that would be a bad mistake. They are truly dreadful instruments.

I do wish I'd bought the one I was offered for £75 some years ago though, it would have helped with my pension. However, I was buying a bass to play, and after trying it out I bought the Baldwin he was selling as well.
