Metalmoore Posted January 29, 2010 Share Posted January 29, 2010 Ok so i was trying to do my own little setup on my bass and noticed that the height screws on one of the saddles on my Schaller 3D-4 bridge wont move, so i cant change the string height of the A string. I have a allen key which came with my 5 string version of the bridge and tried a bunch of other allen keys too and no luck. What are my options? Is there a way to force them out then hopefully they can thread through again. Just rather not spend the 40+ quid to replace a full bridge. I did have an issue with a couple of the grubbies on a Schaller on one of my g'tarists bridges but its was a little bit of sloppy tapping in teh production line, after running a decent length of thread through whilst the asddle was off teh g'tar it was silky smoov again... I tried the once supplied with another schaller bridge but their site says they are the same size and it does actually work on the other saddles. WD40?? I have heard of it but never used it and not really sure what it does either... Could someone tell a DIY noob what it is all about? hillbilly deluxe Posted January 30, 2010 Share Posted January 30, 2010 WD40 is a penetrating fluid/lubricant,spray it on the offending grub screw from both sides,leave it for a few mins,and it should work it's way into the threads,loosening any dirt/rust build up. It could be something as simple as the hex hole in the top of the screw might be blocked up with a bit of crap so the hex key won't fit in. Have a look down the hole with a torch and see if the head looks the same as it does on the other saddles. Actually, looking at my Schaller bridge the grub screws are longer than the saddle is thick so there should be a bit of grub screw sticking out from either the top or the bottom. WD40 has been mentioned if you do get it out give the threads a brush with a suede brush to clean out the bottoms of the vee's Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
