A friend of mine bought this from New York back in 1972 used from Mannys. 1966 Jazz Bass 100% Original with original hardcase in great condition! The frets are original and are in a good shape! Great intonation and all tha mojo in the sound!!! A 66 sold on ebay (ex beautiful south) recently with flight case and (I presume) some definite record of heritage for £2800 - our local shop had a 69 in stock for sale at a price of around £2300 both in nice nick so on balance yours looks a little closer to a shop price than an internet sale - you may do better taking it to vintage and rare and paying their commission if you want to shift it quickly I have been looking for a 66 P for some time now but my price expectations are so unrealistic I am unlikely to ever actually buy one - still I live in hope that these daft prices will subside Good luck with the sale Rgds Darren OOPS just noticed it is a jazz - cheap then! However, if you're using the internet to determine a price, I'd say you should treat Gbase as the very top end of pricing. Gbase is just a central database for dealers (usually vintage specialists), so the prices there reflect that. Ebay's probably a more reliable source of what a private sale might be worth, however, you have to get on there at the right time to find instruments relevant to your sale. And those transition '66 Fender Jazzbasses are very collectible. Good luck with the sale. You can still pick up pre-CBS Fenders for under that price, and they are always going to be collectible. For reference, the last one of these I saw was a custom coloured one in Denmark Street (white with matching headsotck) at £3,500. They would have been selling this either having bought it for around £2,000 or with 15% commission (bringing the sellers total to less than £3,000 in the end). For what it's worth, I'd say it was over-priced, and I would say nearer £2,500 would be a fair price for it. At that price I'd still plump for a Pre-CBS Precision and wait for them to come back into vogue. But for a player, 66' is up there with the early 60's in terms of build quality and playability, so I bet she's sweet. The necks on these are soooo gorgeous!
