Tonally more like a double bass but maybe not as fretless-like in tone as flatwounds can sound. They also feel a bit different on the fingertips (if I may steal the bassworld award for stating the obvious!) but great for those looking for a little tonal variety. They really suit the acoustic sound, and as you say, give a very passable double bass impression. A nice "thumpy" tone - not versatile, but very distinctive! I put a set on an old Hondo bass I had years ago & I quite liked them (I think they may have been Picato nylon tap wounds) - I'm actually thinking of getting a set for my bass in the next couple of weeks.
