Hoping to identify this 15" driver....think it's a Fane...

Hi....as it says....looking for info on this unit....which unfortunately has the label ripped off!

 

Managed to find a similar pic on t'web....which I've also added.....hoping someone might fill me in with some more details.

Unit has no markings....other than 3501 in white on the cone!

It's over 10 years old so even Fane will not retain any spec details other than that on the label.

There’s 3 versions of the 15 in that link, with different coil diameters, so that should help identify it for sure!  Get your tape measure out @tonewheelkev!

Many thanks to you all for this info....exactly what I was after!!

 

The dust cover is 3" diameter....so can I assume that the coil is also 3"? ....that would make it the 200w variant.

 

The weight of this is around 9.5 LBS, so I'm thinking that the 16.5 LBS shown on the .pdf spec is a packaged shipping weight??

Hhhmmmm.....the more I've looked into this... the more I'm realising that I'm wrong!

3" dust cover seems to point towards a smaller coil diameter....and the 9.5 lbs weight is indicating  that I may have the 15/100 variant, with a 2" voice coil.

I think that is right. What are you intending using the speaker it for? The Fane's of that era were pretty unreliable and would end up making magic smoke if run at the full power rating. If I remember clearly they changed the voice coils to something fireproof not long after this generation of drivers but I think these had 'treated' paper coil formers. If you are going to use it I'd suggest limiting the power to less than 50W. The only reason to use it is if you are doing an authentic restoration of a historic cab but treat the old lady with respect. She was born in the 1970's/80's. Somewhere I have Fane's book of cab designs which used the Fane Classics and the then newly introduced Crescendo range. thre's some huge cabs trying to squeeze every last bit out of the low powered speakers of the day.

Great....getting down to it now!

TBH....I'm doing a bit of a clearout...and have several speakers that came from Organ cabinets....as in Hammond PR40s.

This came from a home-made Organ concoction, and I was trying to discover if it had a potential use/value.

 

Not playing bass currently, and can see from the spec .pdf that this isn't going to be suitable for guitar use....unfortunately
