wallyp Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Hello All Purchased this beast from a shop that was closing down for the princley sum of £15. Nearly put my back out loading it into a pickup. I bought the top speaker, an Eminence DELTALITE II 2515 NEO 8ohm 15" 300watt as the original was ripped. I have a Dual Showman Reverb and a Fender J Bass I'd like to use with it. Mostly neck pickup with tone off. My question, as a complete newbie to cabinet design, is can I get this to a useable state? And what should I be priortising? Its looks like somebody has closed a couple of the front open 'ports'. Should I be closing the rest off? Closed back? Acoustic matting? Create new ports? Seperate the two speakers with baffles? BTW low G to Open E farts like a good un. Quote
Downunderwonder Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Option 1, sack the renaining OG driver and get another Deltalite. Port the cab to suit. Option 2, put the OG driver up top in it's own enclosure. @Bill Fitzmaurice might design you a passive crossover to take weight off it and porting to suit Option 2 would be putting basically a 8 ohm load to the amp. ajkula66 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Running the cab "as is" will most likely blow the JBL first so I would advise against that course of action. These cabs were not the greatest design IMO since they're rather shallow so there is room for improvement...depending on how much time you want to spend rebuilding it to suit your needs... Personally, I'd trash the cab and move the D140 - presuming that it's in good working order - into a smaller cabinet and enjoy the ride. The Showman will likely blow it with power above 6-7, so be mindful of that. Good luck. Quote
Bill Fitzmaurice Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Add another Eminence, then it needs proper porting and damping. With the exact interior dimensions I can provide the porting information. There may be another issue as well. For a number of years their inputs were marked red negative, black positive, which is the opposite of how the Eminence are marked. If that's the case it would explain the farting. Quote
