Kiwi Posted October 12 Posted October 12 I'm pleased to say that this month we will be working up a mould for the standard EB SR5 bass, with the 22 fret neck. Measurements are to be confirmed but the same options will be available for this neck that are available for the other necks (below). Necks come with: PEEK fingerboard with MOP side dots, Luminay side dots are available for £10 upcharge. Rosewood, ebony and wenge fingerboards are available for a £75 upcharge. Fretless (lined or unlined) is a £30 upcharge. Fingerboard inlays: MOP or abalone dots are standard, MOP blocks or luminay fingerboard dots are a £30 upcharge. Abalone blocks are also available but slightly smaller than jazz blocks. Other options - please reach out and let's discuss what might be possible. TUSQ nuts installed but not slotted (slotting requires a string gauge to be assumed) 22 stainless steel frets (levelled to a straight neck) Double action truss rods (heel capstan wheel style adjustment) M4x40 neck bolts and inserts will be supplied. (NB the necks don't come pre-drilled because neck bolt locations vary from bass to bass, the inserts must be used) Tuner holes are drilled ( TBC) but screw holes for tuners are not (again, because different tuner designs have different hole locations) NB: Dimensions are consistent with SR5 necks but are not Ernie Ball Music Man licensed products or in anyway associated with Ernie Ball Inc. obviously. There may be fractions of a millimetre difference due to manufacturing tolerances, we recommend having an experienced luthier fit the neck for the best possible fit. All rights to trademarks belong to their respective owners etc. Specifications subject to change without notice due to continual, ongoing improvements. Quote
tauzero Posted October 13 Posted October 13 Does this mean that there's a chance that they'll fit the OLP Tony Levin? Nut width 45mm. Width at 12th fret 61.5mm. Width at 22nd fret 69mm. Depth at 1st fret 21.8mm. Depth at 12th fret 23.6. Heel thickness c 27.8mm. Neck pocket - 93mm long Distance from 12th fret to end of heel pocket - c 203mm Quote
Kiwi Posted October 14 Author Posted October 14 @thevintagebassist Hey Roger, are you able to share any measurements for Mike? We would need the nut width and depth, width and depth at 12th fret and same at 22nd fret along with the heel length from the end to where the shoulder starts. Quote

I've found a TB thread which suggests they might not be compatible. https://www.talkbass.com/threads/regular-stingray-5-neck-pocket-size.378133/post-4891902 Quote
tauzero Posted October 14 Posted October 14 Would the Ray5 be the same as the Stingray 5? I have one of those here too so I could try a neck swap. Quote
Kiwi Posted October 15 Author Posted October 15 I don't have Ray35 measuremnts to hand, unfortunately. But I would be surprised if they were the same. Quote

I can take a stab at measurements but in the meantime if it helps, earlier this year I bought a Tony Levin OLP that had a Status SR5 neck attached to it. I bought the bass to use the neck for a Stingray 5 installation more in that later. as for the OLP body, there might have been some light sanding done to get the neck in the pocket but it seemed to fit with no modifications and I played in tune. Of course the OLP is a 4 bolt neck system to the neck was drilled differently. My tech ended up installing the neck in a Ray35 which was a perfect fit. Notably I had sold the OLP body and later the same buyer bought the Ray35 neck to install on the OLP body. Never heard back from the buyer so I assume all went well. In short, it seems the 22 fret necks were fairly interchangeable across the three models (SR5, Ray35 and Tony Levin OLP). 1 1 Quote
Kiwi Posted October 15 Author Posted October 15 Well, it would be fantastic if confirmed and would certainly make the compatibility question a lot simpler to answer in the future! Quote

thevintagebassist Posted October 31 Posted October 31 Here are measurements my tech took of the OLP neck pocket which had the SR5 neck. thr neck pocket looks relatively unmolested but it looks like there may have been some light sanding done to one side which is common even for installing on a Matching UsA model. Will endeavor to get measurements on an SR5 neck pocket. Apologies for the delay here and hopefully this is still helpful to everyone. 1 Quote
tauzero Posted yesterday at 14:06 Posted yesterday at 14:06 Just want to check - is it definitely a 42mm nut, not a 44.5 or 45? Quote
Kiwi Posted 21 hours ago Author Posted 21 hours ago We have gone with 42mm for the SR5 necks by popular request Quote
tauzero Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago What basses have 42mm nuts, so I can see if it would suit me? EBMM Stingray 5 is 44.5mm so not them. Quote
Kiwi Posted 15 hours ago Author Posted 15 hours ago The Vigier Passion is 42mm. AI is suggesting the following: 1. Ibanez Soundgear (SR) Series Models: SR505, SR605, SR705, SR805, Prestige models (e.g., SR1405). Nut Width: Consistently 42mm across almost the entire 5-string SR line. Why it's notable: This is one of the most iconic and accessible lines with this spec. They feature ultra-thin, fast necks, lightweight bodies, and great ergonomics. The perfect starting point for a 42mm nut search. 2. Yamaha TRBX500 & 600 Series Models: TRBX505, TRBX605. Nut Width: 42mm. Why it's notable: Yamaha offers tremendous value. These are well-built, versatile basses with modern electronics and a very comfortable, slightly rounded neck profile that's easy to play. 3. ESP/LTD B-Series Models: LTD B-205, B-255, B-1005, etc. Nut Width: Typically 42mm on many of their 5-string models (always double-check the spec sheet for the specific model). Why it's notable: Great for rock and metal players. They often feature a flat neck profile ("D" shape) which, combined with the 42mm nut, gives a very consistent, fast feel across the fingerboard. 4. Schecter Stiletto Series Models: Stiletto Stealth-5, Stiletto Custom-5. Nut Width: Many are listed at 1.65" (42mm). Why it's notable: Another excellent option for modern tones. Schecter's necks are famously smooth and playable, often with a thin "C" shape, making them very comfortable for the 42mm width. 5. Sire Marcus Miller V Series Models: Sire V5, V7, V9 (5-string versions). Nut Width: 42mm. Why it's notable: Exceptional value with high-end features (like rolled fingerboard edges, active/passive electronics). The necks have a soft "C" shape that many players find very comfortable. Quote
tauzero Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I happen to have an Ibanez SRF705. Nut 45mm. Just looked at the specs for several 5-string Ibanez SR models, consistently 45mm. Yamaha TRBX500 43mm. ESP LTD B-205 45mm. Schecter Stiletto Stealth-5 45mm. Sire Marcus Miller V5 46mm. So AI is bollocks. Quote
