funkgod Posted September 4 Posted September 4 (edited) Just a point on original songs... i have been in a fair few blues bands over the years and played more than my fair share of clubs/festivals. so have some personal views about blues sets 😞 for example, for me blues has moved on and the boundary crossing into other areas is what interests me, i think the old traditional blues set has been done to death by loads of already great sounding bands and i don't think i could bring anything new to that, while i think its great to keep all forms of traditional music going for those that like and the new that want to experience a traditional blues band, its that boundary pushing that still excites me enough to want to enjoy playing it. which leads me to my point, writing your own new fresh original music in a blues band is a way of pushing those boundaries and if the songs are good people will applaud that effort. My last blues band was all about just that, playing stuff most blues bands dont play and mixing that with original stuff. so being a funky minded person alot of the set and original stuff was pushed that way. so.... I say get some original stuff mixed in there and enjoy that, its a ready made testing ground, so abuse that till your up to your spuds, and if it goes down well then hay...get it recorded and get it out there and use the band to promote your songs, not other peoples ! plenty of places selling 100 printed T-shirts cheap nowdays ! push the limits, with what you have, while you can.
