Old Fox Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Hi bass community, I have a Mark Bass COMBO 121 and would like add an extension cab to beef up the sound, am I right in thinking it needs to be 8 OHMS to match the COMBO and will this increase the overall volume? regards Roger Quote
Lozz196 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Ye an 8ohm cab is what you need, ideally a 1x12 to match, the Markbass NY121 is a very good fit. Louder, well the difference between what your amp puts out at 8ohms and 4ohms won’t be that much but - and a big but - you’ll effectively be doubling the amount of the sound so it will seem much bigger/louder. I had the CMD121P combo paired with the NY121 cab and though I only ever played to the volume of the drums there was a really noticeable change to the amount of sound when using both as opposed to just the combo. 1 Quote
Downunderwonder Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago More power through more speakers = big win, with the caveat that results can be messy. There may be be 2 to 3dB extra worth of amp power. What happens to that power depends how similarly the cabinets react. Try to find the cab that Markbass sold as the extension for the combo. Otherwise all bets are off and you should try before you buy. A good match will get you another 3dB of loudness. +5dB is a good bump to keep up your sleeve for when you need it. If you need it just to keep up you should really be shopping for a bigger rig. An 8 ohm 212 under it would really surprise but you could put a bigger amp on it by itself and get louder again. Quote
Old Fox Posted 6 hours ago Author Posted 6 hours ago Good advice, I’ve seen an 8 OHM Mark Bass 15 inch cab for sale but now I’m thinking a 2 x 12 might be a better option and I’m guessing that it connects straight into the spare jack socket? thanks in advance for any tips, regards Roger Quote
Dan Dare Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago (edited) Yes, you run an extension cab via the spare speaker jack. As others advise, try before you buy. MB combos are usually pretty portable, so it won't be too much of an issue to take it with you when auditioning stuff. I wouldn't discount a 1x15 without trying it. Edited to add. The extension cab doesn't have to be Markbass, unless visuals really bother you. Shameless plug coming up. I have a Bergantino 1x12, 8ohm, going spare, which would do the job. PM me if it might be of interest. Edited 2 hours ago by Dan Dare Quote
