What do you think of this bridge?

Not sure if this should go to the eBay section, but it's not really an auction, they've got a shop but i didn't find this bridge on their website. Anyway, what do you think? It looks rugged, like an unbranded Gotoh or something...I'm looking for a bidge for my MIM Jazz but it looks like this one requires some DIY - not my thing AT ALL lol...

Well the mounting holes are in a completely different location to a normal "Fender" bridge so you would have to position the bridge correctly and drill new holes.

Not a major problem in itself, but you'd have to be comfortable with that.

Can't really get an idea of the quality from that one photo, though.

This would be a better design for Fender etc. I've got them on my Tokai & Yamaha SBV - good bridges. The only problem is that this is gold.

Not my case...it would be a disaster trust me...lol

nick, the one you've posted seems similar but with the holes in the 'right' spot. Does it fit perfectly in Fenders like the Gotoh and BAII?...shame the colour, for the price I would give it a go :)

It fits my Tokai, which I guess can be considered a Fender Precision replica & also dropped staight into my Yamaha which is kind of Jazz bass derived.
You could ask the seller if he plans to get chrome ones in at some point in near future.

*Here we go chrome version here :)

Cool, cheers mate  This one goes up to £16.00 though...more expensive than the other seller. Is the back of the bridge solid, like a block or not? the pic is not great

Ends on mine are solid (one of which I bought off this seller), but as you say photo is a bit crappy.
I would ask the seller TBH, just to be sure.

Cheers, just done that :)

This one goes for everyone...Is there any alternatives for a J-bass bridge replacement other than the Gotoh 201 and BAII??

On the contrary, if they are anything like the ones I got, then there's nothing substandard about them at all. Substantially made, with a decent weight & finished OK.
For anyone who is isn't a fan of Badass, & there are a few, they're a good alternative to the usual Fender-ish tin plates, with tracked saddles.

I personally don't think that cost necessarily always means a compromise on quality.

so basically, after contacting the eBay sellers...the one they have in gold (the one nick uses) and seems solid, they don't have in stock and won't have, the second one, the guy sent me more pics...it's actually not solid in the end bit where you fit the strings...I think I'll have to go with a Gotoh after all

You may be lucky and get a decent bridge for under £10.. personally I think the bridge has such a big effect on the bass that a little more investment is worth it, especially if it's not adding holes to your bass and tus can be removed later.

On this one those forward screwholes will add two holes to your bass ..
If you don't mind that then a Gotoh 203 may be a better choice as it's a really good simple bridge that looks like a Fender one but a bit thicker and more solid.

If you don't want any extra holes I'd suggest a Gotoh 201 at under £30 on eBay instead.

I've done this a few times with "bent tin" bridges and it will make a big diffference to your bass.

+1
Id personally go for the Badass (little expensive tho), Had one fitted to my Jazz and it made a real dif. then put one on my P (see profile pic), and my Modulus Flea has it as standard. Oh and the only Fender id ever own would be the Geddy Lee which has them as standard (wouldnt buy it just for the bridge, they are lovely basses)
Heard good things about Gotoh but never used a bass with one on for more then 20 mins.

Edit:
The bent bit of tin Fender call bridges dont really do it for me, saddle movement is a bit annoying when trying to tune perfectly, plus dont give as much sustain apparently. the one you are on about in the pic above looks like they have tryed to combat that with having litle groves in the plate under the saddles, but as ive never tried one I couldnt comment.

I got the 5 string version of that bridge (in OPs link). It's heavy, sturdy and i've had no problems with it at all. For the price you get the mounting screws and an Allen key, which is pretty fair. I only have an Ibanez SR305 bridge to compare it against, but I'd say it's just as good if not better. I bought every piece of hardware from this ebay seller for my cheap project bass and nothing has gone wrong so far. A Wilkinson pickup, 4 machine heads and a bridge for £22? I can't complain.
