Absolutely nothing. It's a standard 3 pickup Dingwall with active and passive circuit.

Actually it has a Neve preamp, rather than the Darkglass..... and sounds much better as a result.

And I liked it! 🙂

Yeah, I do remember it has a Neve preamp. Personally, I've never played a Dingwall that I liked the sound of, though I grant his did sound better than the usual personality free, insipid tone Dingwalls usually have. Not massively though.

I found the same with my Dingwall. The passive tone control is hugely useful too.

I have to say I played another Dingwall recently and it sounded a bit generic.

I have friends who play the guitar that feel the same way about PRS. Soulless, lacking character etc. It's all personal though at the end of the day. Maybe the people in the band with you will notice when you play something else and have an opinion about tone, the sound person at a gig or in a studio possibly but the only person who really cares is you. Nobody in the audience will have any idea if you've got a Fedora or a Glarry.

In the early days there were a few that I got excited about but turned out to be disappointments.

I had one particular bass on loan, didn't actually own it, not sure this counts but to this day is hands down the worst bass I've ever played in my life. Everything about it was sh*te. The finish, the pick ups, the neck....etc. Truly awful thing.

Ibanez srx595. My first decent bass was a srx300 which I adored. Loved the fast & slim neck. So much so, I decided I wanted a 5 string upgrade. That thing was gorgeous to look at, but it just felt awful in my hands. After a short while it was moved on.

Fast forward a while, lessons learned and I have been lucky in the past 15 years and haven't really owned anything I really disliked. I recently ventured back into the ibanez SRX world and now own a srx705 (bought for £200, bargain). Love the feel of this bass however I wasn't happy with the aggressive tone. So it now sports some Aguilar DCBs. Looks and sounds lovely.
