I’ve had better luck posting short clips rather than full tracks, especially things with a bit of humour or a surprising moment. Got more interaction that way, and oddly enough, one of my posts about a broken string mid-song got traction after someone shared it. I once tested free tiktok likes—it did give a tiny bump at the start.

I mostly post clips of rehearsal jams and short gear demos. Engagement’s decent when I keep things casual and consistent, but I’ve noticed longer videos get less attention than quick clips.

What's your name/ handle/ address on there, please?

I’ve recently started using Instagram, ‘read-only’, in order to follow some bands or musicians, because it’s so much easier there than on the tar pit that is Facebook (and let’s not mention Twitter). I don’t mind at all if they post some non-music stuff as long as it doesn’t drown out the music and gig info that I mainly want to see.

I had the same weird gap between online likes and real people turning up. What helped me was treating Instagram more like a place to spot who actually cares rather than a magic gig machine. I even used snoopreport for a bit to see what my followers were into, which made it easier to post stuff that sparked real chats. It won’t fix everything, but it can show who’s genuinely engaged
