This is great for snare drums, but if you put 100 people in there chatting it gets pretty loud pretty quickly. Any thoughts on sound deadening. I know I could put drapes along the walls. I know that some places hang a 6 foot drape along the ceiling. I am fully aware that it is a classically wrong shape and all those hard surfaces are not helping anything. Any other thoughts? SubsonicSimpleton Posted May 21, 2023 Share Posted May 21, 2023 Lovely looking building - probably the best place to start from is the budget, and what would be acceptable in terms of overall aesthetics and light considerations. I did the PA for an event in a big community hall where they had heavy drapes installed floor to ceiling on all walls including the internal ones without windows, which allowed the room to be made more/less reverberent on the fly, but it was a modern building with no architectural details. Looking at the pictures of your church hall, I can't really envision that approach working without ruining the look of the place. You could maybe deploy absorbative panels on the walls in a way that doesn't destroy the overall look of the place - there are a number of companies that offer panels in all sorts of shapes/colours, including things like noticeboard replacements. Bigguy2017 Posted May 21, 2023 Share Posted May 21, 2023 That barrel-vaulted ceiling is focussing audio down to head height. Great for sermons, not so good for anything else. I'd fly some thick absorbers around the height of the cross rails and put some 50mm panels, stood off the wall by 50mm, on the side walls - particularly at the speaker locations. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have just realised that we have a couple of packets of Rockwool at work which will never be used so the woodwork able in the church could make some panels pretty easily.
