Microphone Between Bridge Feet

My DB teacher of some years ago used a Shure  mic wrapped in thickish foam, ‘jammed’ between the bridge feet with the mic head facing upwards in line with the fingerboard……plugged into a 30 watt valve amp and 12” speaker, great sound.

(That teachers name was Roy Babbington).

Watching with interest. I've seen lots of this recently, an would love to know what folks are using and how they're mounting them. I'm not that sold on my piezo and I don't really fancy going down the route of tiny, expensive dedicated mics.

I’m sure it was a SM58 vocal mic, maybe the D12 drum mic would do a good job?
