The Ibanez 1005SMS might be worth a look, 30"-32" scale, will weigh next to nothing and is already headless so no dive. Around a grand new but they drop a fair bit of value second hand, one on Facebook for £550 at the moment:

Indeed!!  I actually went into GAK yesterday to try one out, it was amazing!  Light, well balanced, sounded great, I was a bit concerned the 32 inch B string might be too much but it seemed OK and I got on well with the fan fret layout.  Huge chunk of dosh but so nice!  (So very nice!)

Wow - I would get that if I was anywhere near there!

Shame to see Patty go  I have a TMB35 that I changed tuners for lower weight as found on here some used ones cheaper. And some Aguilar pickups but the work to route and new scratch plate would likely be too much normally but I thought what the hell. Easily my most played bass until I got the ehb1005sms (had a 1006ms and I have a 1005ms).

If you can get a used Ibanez ehb short scale I'd say go for it.
