emilibass Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 (edited) Hi mates! Iâm putting up my Suzuki P bass made in Japan in the late 70s for sale. It has no serial number so itâs very difficult to know the exact date. This instrument has a bit of history. I bought a few months ago as a Tokai, and despite my doubts, I bought it because of its âgrowlâ. I even had an email from Tokai Japan saying itâs a real Tokai, but I must be honest and say itâs more than likely to be a Suzuki. Here youâll find the whole story, if youâre interested: http://www.tokaiforu...der=asc&start=0 This is a good Precision. The neck is maple and the body could be sen ash. Itâs quite well-built, with the Japanese attention to details. Everythingâs original, except the headstock logo. The instrument isnât mint as you will guess. It has been used, so it has some small dings and scratches, but like you see in the pictures, itâs general conditional is pretty good for its age. The neck is fantastic, straight and with a mid action. It has an oldie neck profile, which I presume is U, but I donât find it specially hard to play, so maybe Iâm wrong. I have gigged it several times and itâs quite comfortable and very responsive. The bass weighs 4kg and itâs balanced. The pickups sound massive. It has the sought-after growl of the first Precisions, with fat and defined low-mids. I have just recorded something for you to check it. Three takes: first fingers with drums, second fingers alone, pick alone https://soundcloud.com/vaiges/suzuki The bass is in Barcelona, and itâs no trouble in shipping it anywhere in Europe. Iâll throw in a used hardshell case for the shipping. Now some pics. I can take some more on request. I'll answer any doubts. Thanks. Edited July 17, 2017 by emilibass
gjones Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 I like that first track. It sounds very Blockhead like.
Bassassin Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 Not sure why you think this is a Suzuki. I'd be inclined to think that if Tokai Gakki have confirmed that it's a specific Tokai model, then that's likely to be exactly what it is. I'm very, very familiar with copy-era MIJ instruments, and to be honest your bass has nothing more than a passing & coincidental resemblance to the two Suzuki-branded instruments linked in the thread. I'm no particular Tokai expert so maybe someone else can confirm exactly what it is - but I think it's a lot more likely to be a Tokai than anything else.
