Lightweight & portable rig

Hey guys,

I thought I'd find much better answers asking on here than trawling through loads of spec sheets and YT vids..

Basically I'm looking at finally getting a head and cab rig. My trusty Laney though a loyal servant for practice, now nowhere near pumps out the wattage needed for gigging.

After some listening, demos etc I really like the sound of Harkte gear but of course willing for other suggestions.

As I am a student (poor so sadly no Markbass) I would like something lightweight and compact as space is limited in my digs and the boot of my car,

Thoughts would be very much appreciated

The Fender Rumble gear seems to get a lot of positive reviews on here...

Depends what sort of sound you are after really? Hartke is edging towards the more modern bright sound and the Rumble stuff more towards a traditional SVT style tone and may be a good upgrade from your Laney.

Lots of bargains to be had secondhand with Genz Benz gear being an absolute steal for the price it goes for.

What's your budget? Are you prepared to buy used or would you insist on new? How big is the boot of your car? How strong and fit are you (which will affect what you call "portable").

Oh, and sorry to be pedantic - but what you need is volume, not wattage (i.e. power). The two are related, but not directly. There are many other factors in getting decent volume and tone... :)

I'd look for used gear that would otherwise be above your budget - if you get a Markbass or Barefaced cab then you're laughing. Saying that the markbass stuff is pretty cheap new now with the exchange rate.

I've got both MB and BF gear and I gig the BF, it's just better but I use the MB kit at practise to save lugging anything around.

Quite a few options around in the for sale threads at the moment, certainly for cabs - not so much for amps though...
