Ashdown eb180 blown fuse

Recommended Posts

Hi ,I don't know if anyone can help me,my Ashdown EB 180 combo keeps blowing fuses on the IEC input, the fuse I took out was a 2 amp slow blow, and I replaced it like for like,Put the fuse in turn on the power and ! Poof ,blown fuse.I did not have the cab connected at the time and wondered if that was the cause. The initial blown fuse occurred during a practice session and everything was connected up.Any heads up ,is the fuse too small power wise etc.My first thought was to buy a cheap replacement amp and keep the cab as,well, a cab.Cheers in anticipation.

If the fuse you took out was a T2A then replacing it with the same type is the correct first move.

If that fuse blows then don't be tempted to replace it with a bigger one - all you'll achieve is a bigger repair bill.

From your description, my first suspicion would be a faulty mains transformer.

These did suffer from a weak transformer, I've replaced a few of these. The replacement that Ashdown supplied was a big bigger. It's not a big job for a tech to diagnose the where the fault lies, transformer, power supply or power amp. Get a tech to look it over and work from there. Ashdown are pretty good on the service front, worth telling them the serial number to gain some sympathy if it's the transformer.
