Why use a preamp (like Sansamp)?

I have a decent ( well gegarded ) pedal board with all sorts of modelling and I'l probably sell it.
It doesn't do well enough as a processed sound

So, in general, not a fan of a processed sound into an average processed sounding amp..
If the amp isn't doing it, or is too coloured, get something else, but I don't hear pedals
doing that well...
I take the point that they can be used for bail-outs in certain situations but not as your core sound, IMO.

Good point, but I'm sure there are those if us whose core amp tone isn't important and need it to be as neutral as it gets without spending a fortune.

Also buying a 100 or so pound pedal that sounds amazing beats spending 1000 pound on a new amp you may hate, and don't want to lug around.
