But that was in the "good old days" before shed loads of countries split up and became several countries, and a load of Eastern block states of Russia suddenly became European!

Personally I love the contest! Watch it every year with great enthusiasm and gusto, but I don't take it seriously.

I think Graham Norton has done a grand job as a replacement for Sir Tel.

The last time new countries were added was 2008 (Azerbaijan and San Marino, apparently)... we came fifth in 2009. Hardly the mark of a country that everyone hates and noone votes for.

We do badly because we treat it as a joke and enter no-marks and has-beens singing terrible songs.

I wouldn't say that it's my favourite past time but it's certainly in the top five...
