Hi all I recently got some new secondhand pickups and the wire is really short I am OK with a soldering iron but I want to know if I can remove the old wires from the PUP that are on the back which just look like they are held on with a blob of solder straight on to the magnet and solder on new ones or will doing this bugger the magnets up in the PUP? I would rather put new wire on instead of splicing the existing wires as it would be a neater repair any advice much appreciated guys as this is my task for the weekend lol :)

Thanks in advance

The magnets shouldn't be soldered to. If they are then it might be an earth of some sort.
Soldering at the pup end of the wire is tricky as you could end up de-soldering the coil wire inside. If in doubt leave it for a pro. If you want to risk it make sure you do it in quick dabs.
Thanks for that I had a feeling I should not solder to the magnets and doubted myself so thought I best double check here :) looks like I will be joining the wires and tidying up with some heat shrink tubing not the end of the world :) but cheers for the help :)
