The 'Real Book'

I am heading off to uni next year and am intent on joining the jazz group to try and improve my playing and have some fun. I have been speaking to a few people about what to learn/how the nights run as I have absolutely no experience of anything jazzy at all. I was given the following list of songs and told I could find them in the 'real book' which I probably had a copy of but should get one if I didn't.

Satin Doll
Nostalgia in Times Square
Blue Bossa
Fly me to the Moon
Mr. PC
Chameleon
Blue Monk
Black Orpheus
Take the A Train
Canteloupe Island
The Chicken (Jaco Pastorius)
Misty

Now I have been looking round on google and I get a wikipedia article telling me all about the real book and its history. Which is the version I should get? I assume the Hal Lenoard Bass Clef version?

I would also be greatful if anyone else could reccommend any good books for an introduction to jazz.

Many thanks

Chris

yeah the bass clef version is a good start.
although the trick is just playing off the chord progession.

The days of wine and Roses
Four
So What Freddie Freeloader
Fly me to the Moon
Night and Day
There is no greater Love
A night in Tunisia
Blues for Alice

all will do you no harm

John Goldsby Jazz Bass Book is a scorcher. A heap of quality.
Joel Di Bartolo "Serious Electric Bass" for theory primer.
Todd Coleman does a book on solo analysis. Super cool "All the things you are in this".

Yes, the Real Book of Jazz has the standard keys... Other good places for standard chord charts are the small "Pocket Changes" books. They're usually available from America. Every standard you're ever likely to hear in there!

Stange this topic should come up. I was thinking of writing a book of jazz standard example basslines this summer. Just wondered if it would be a book people would buy?

I've got rhythm... [Think The Flintstones Theme]
Learn this chord sequence and it will set your ears up for
a life time of Busking...
Then you can do away with the books... :)

As someone has said..
There is a PDF Disc around with tons of tunes.
Or the Pocket books are a good start.
