WHUFC BASS Posted December 24, 2012 Share Posted December 24, 2012 (edited) I've been working on this song in my home studio for the past few days. Its a cover of Vinnie Stigma of Agnostic Front's song "Hard Living". I'd like some advice on the mix please: [url="https://soundcloud.com/london-diehards/hard-livin-latest"]Text Mix - Hard Livin'[/url] I'm still not 100% happy with the bass sound, I'd rather have a much more ballsier valve, slightly overdriven sound but just can't seem to get it with my valve Trace Elliot combo. zero9 Posted January 3, 2013 Share Posted January 3, 2013 I've listened through some headphones, which normally give a 'favourable' bass response. 51m0n Posted January 9, 2013 Share Posted January 9, 2013 I'd drop the lead vocal back a touch, and get a bit more drum and maybe a midge more bass. Tricky balancing between bass and guitar (great guitar sounds though - nice one!) As for the bass sound 'issue' I think you may be over worrying, however if you want you could take the mic signal (which should have less low end) route it to another channel, filter it further and add some grind to that then very very carefully bring that channel up, it wil effect the entire bass sound and you will be surprised by just how much distortion/drive you can put on it. Only thing is to find a drive that includes some form of cab simulation so as not to have nasty top end fizz, cos you dont want that! OldG Posted January 9, 2013 Share Posted January 9, 2013 (edited) Great job, as above on balancing levels... for grittier bass you could duplicate the bass track and treat that with a NoAmp or B.O.D type vst - then mix it in low and bring it up until you get enough dirt, while still having a good clear bass track to punch with.
