Xtof
Hi, everybody! I wanted to let you know some little things about a french instrument maker called Patrick Cosme. He is located in south of France, near Nîmes. Here is the link to his website . Patrick is a really cool guy, and I ordered him two basses : a 6 string bass ( with a 32' scale) and a piccolo midi 6 string bass. Both instruments are almost finished and I'm so impatient!!!! Here is the link towards Patrick's Facebook page, and here are a few pics of the piccolo ( almost finished), and some of the bass. Well, I just hope you can access these pages, and hope you'll enjoy his work! I will let you know when I receive the two babies, and will record some little things with them... Cheers! eude
Cool basses mate! Would love to see more, the links to your basses don't work :-( But through my limited grasp of French I've managed to navigate my way round the site. Cosme have some really cool basses on the site, love the fact they're building sub 34" scale basses too. That 29" Jivan is absolutely gorgeous! So what shape have you gone for?... Cheers, Eude
Xtof
I have choosen the Kanji shape for the two basses. Patrick makes a fantastic work on the woods. I'm going to try to find a way to show the two babies... :-)
Xtof
Here is a pic of the piccolo bass : ... and one of the bass : Hope it will work! :-)
eude
Great man, worked just fine! What scale length is the non piccolo?
Xtof
it is a 32' length scale. Patrick built a 6 string bass for himself, with a scale length at 31'. The low B sounds so huuuuuge!! :-)
eude
it is a 32' length scale. Xtof
Hi, folks! Here are a few pictures of Patrick Cosme latest works, and they arrived at my home very recently! ;-) There are two of them and I'll begin with the Kanji 6 string Piccolo MIDI! I hope my crappy english will be understandable for all of you... First, here is the whole thing ! The front and back wood is Cocobolo The fingerboard is completely flat (no radius) and it is wonderful speckled maple. The rest of the body is black limba. About electronics, we have many knobs, but it is rather simple, in the end! Ok, let's make it clear : we have the upper line (3 knobs) and the lower line (5 knobs) From right to left, on the lower line, we have the three volumes : magnetic pickups, piezo and MIDI. The first knob on the upper line is the pickup pan. The two little switches are selecting the pickups mode (serie, simple, parallel) And the last two knobs of each line are the filters. the last knob of the lower line is the volume of the bridge PU filter, and the knob just before is the volume of the neck PU filter. The last knobs of the upper line select the frequency of each filter. You might say that it looks like an airplane dashboard ( Hope it is the right word), but the point is that it offers so many sound possibilities!!! :-D Bass back : ... and a few details of the neck ( 13 wood layers) Yummy!.. :-) ... and the MIDI and jack inserts... ... that let us hear the sound(s) of this beauty! Well, I hope you'll enjoy the pictures of this instrument Patrick Cosme has made such a huge and marvellous work for it. And he is such a nice man! Putting the project in his hands has been an unforgettable experience, and I'll do it again as soon as I have enough money! He made a bass for a friend of mine, and it is just stunning, astonishing, whatever you want!!!... I will make sound samples very quickly, and I will let you hear them as soon as possible! And there will be also probably a video! The review of my second Cosme bass is on its way, folks!!! Have a nice day!!!! :-)

Xtof
Here we go for the 6 string Kanji review, folks! This time, it's a "real" bass, not a piccolo!! So, we have a 32' scale ( I am wondering if it is a short or medium scale, by the way) with a huuuuge lwo B, very well defined. About woods, the front is a wonderful quilted maple, and the body 's wood is ash. The fingerboard wood is zebrano, and the neck has 13 wood layers ( maple, zebrano, wedge, ...) The electronics is a little more simple than the piccolo, with, from right to left, volume, pickups pan, and the two filters (the same thing than the piccolo) The switches select the Crel PU coil mode The back of the bass, with the same -S- than on the piccolo. Hope you will enjoy these pics, and once again, sorry for my bad english! Sound samples are on their way!!! :-) Thanks for watching, folks! ikay
... and the MIDI and jack inserts...
I'd be interested to know how the MIDI function works, can you provide a bit more info on that: - does it have onboard audio-to-MIDI conversion with MIDI out that can plug directly into a MIDI synth module (eg Proteus 2000)? - or does it just generate separate signals for each string via a 13-pin output which is compatible with Roland guitar syths? - does it use the RMC piezo/Polydrive system or the Graphtec piezo/Hexaphonic system or something else? Thanks
Xtof
Hello, Ikay! I'm going to try to answer your questions : Patrick told me that there is a onboard MIDI converter, and it uses the Graphtec system! And you can choose also what kind of MIDI device you're using, Roland or... I don't remember the name of the system (shame on me!) Thanks for watching! :-)
