marwood Posted April 24, 2012 Share Posted April 24, 2012 Theres a pretty good book by Martin Koch - Building Electric Guitars, a good idea to have a read before you take on a build. Wish I had of done before I made my fretless, could of avoided some headaches! I would suggest getting all your hardware, draw out your bass full scale and make sure it all fits into your design. When I did mine I had shaped the headstock before I had received the tuners, thought I had left loads of space, barely got them to fit... lettsguitars Posted May 9, 2012 Share Posted May 9, 2012 You don't need any books! The internet has all the info you need. Just figure out what you think you know already and anything you're not sure about and do a thorough search until you think you have read everything there is. You'll soon start building a picture of how it's done. Of course the only way to get it down is trial and error. A little help doesn't hurt though. Check out carl thompsons youtube vids for really great spiritual tips on the subject. If you need any assistance just pm me and i can point you in the right direction. Easy now Jon Letts. Thunderpaws Posted May 9, 2012 Share Posted May 9, 2012 I have nearly finished my first build from scratch. Need to get the nut done. Been meaning to get the nut done for a year now! Biggest piece of advice from me is, if you start, don't stop until you finish. I lost access to a workshop for a while, but now am re-accessed, so should get finished soon.
