Mayones Jabba Classic and 'Wick $$ Youtube Covers!

Just a few covers (not 100% accurate - I used a little artistic license :) using my Mayones Jabba Classic and heavily upgraded Warwick Corvette Double Buck (Nordstrand pre, Delano pickups). All Mayones vids with tone controls set flat and all on the neck pickup so far. I'll post some more videos with more varied tone soon and a tone comparison test pre and post Norstrand SE pickup upgrade.

Recording was direct into a M-Audio USB interface into VirtualDub.

Cheers,

Dave

Nice playing, sounds great!

Same bass as I'm using these days as well, except of course that I've completely modded mine so it's almost completely non-original...!

Thanks guys!

Peteb, what have you done to your Jabba? I'm just about to throw in some Nordy SE pickups to get more vintage growl, so I'll upload a tone comparison test then.

Since you asked........

I've actually got one of the last passive versions that they did, so first of all I put in a John East J-Retro Deluxe curcuit

Then I took it to Jon Shuker to get a Schaller 2000 bridge fitted along with a brass nut and a little thumb rest between the pick-ups! It's now back with Jon at the moment for him to drop in some Bartolini pick-ups

Really nicely put together bass that plays great, which I've modded to get what I would have if I had a custom 'super jazz' built for me (for slightly less money)!

Actually, if you are going to upgrade it I would probably change the bridge first - apparently it's quite a cheap one fitted as standard

As I said before, yours sounded great for the stuff that you're playing in the clips - wonder what it will sound like with the nordys??

So how did the bridge affect tone? One thing I think perhaps the Mayones Is lacking is a little sustain, so would be good if it fixes that.

I'll let you know when I do the tone comparison with the pickups.

Exactly, massive improvement in sustain and a slightly more 'solid' tone with the Schaller (actually, I didn't think that the Mayones was that bad for sustain before, but you really can tell the difference)

Actually, I'm getting a Schaller getting fitted to my Fender Jazz right now as the sustain is really poor in comparison to the Mayones now!

Cool, thanks.

This one?

No, not that model thru I have had that one fitted to a bass (many years ago)!

This is the one that I've had fitted to my Mayones: http://www.thomann.de/gb/schaller_bass_bridge_2000_4s_chrome.htm

Jon Shuker reckons that it is the best bridge on the market,,,,,,

Looks pretty good to my eyes when it has been fitted

Mayones actually do fit it as an upgrade on their 'custom' models - see here for spec / photos: http://www.mayones.com/en/katalog/jabba/jabba_custom

Ah yeah. I retract that comment. It looks the b0110cks! Cheers, dude. I think I'll have to get one :)

I'll see what that plus the Nordys do to my sound.

Cool - look forward to the new video....! :)
