Warmouth bass need help

Ok I have been bass less for so long its a joke. Sold my GB spit fire to get a Wal but then had a change of heart was going to try and get her back but then..... lost my job down to a not so nice boss! but hey what can you do. And had to spend then money supporting myself till i got a new job. With all that now done am on the hunt for a new bass.

So as it stands I have the option to get a hand made Wal copy, with an acg pre amp and/ or wal clones from SGD or dual coils from Nordstrand. And i really like this option but at £1000 for just the bass and then i have to buy all hardware its pricy and plus no resale value at all if that was the case.

But i have been looking at warmouth these days and jebus has there quality gone up and i have always been a sucker for a 1975 reissue!

So what do people think jazz or not to jazz? is there any one out there with experience with warmouth jazz basses and if so if you are near brighton could i have a bash? Or should i go for the custom build? I know i want to go with the whole filter pre amp thinginy majig.

Any thoughts would be Awesome.

ACG sell their filter preamp- look for their website or skelf will possibly be along in a bit.

I put myself a jazz style bass together from hand made parts, and used a standard passive system rather than an active.

It was fairly easy, but I got lucky and the stuff I bought purely on spec from a company online (cant remember who, really wish i could) was absolutely spot on. Beware though some are cheap.

Ive just fitted some Seymour Duncan SJB3 pickups and im chuffed to bits with it. Im undecided, but i fancy one of those varitone control plates too.


Personally I now rate as good as, if not better than a USA jazz.and cost about £1000 less (although i may have rose tinted glasses on as i put it together myself! )

Id recommend anyone to give it a go - even buy parts or a cheapo bass for breaking off ebay to see if you can do it before buying quality parts etc.


Resale value though is peanuts. I also made a deep cherry red strat - all gold harware, quality body, genuine fender hot pickup loaded pearloid scratchplate and blue LEDs in the neck, cost me a fortune to make - and it sold in pristine condition..............for £90 !! aarrgghhhhhhh!!

Ah, I was assuming you were assembling everything yourself? Are you just buying?

also USACG has a good/better reputation than warmoth.

If you know what you want it's a great option otherwise any parts instrument will have a low resale value in the used market. I have three Warmoth guitars made to my specs and I like ém a lot.
An experienced luthier will turn a good bass into a great bass, if you don't have experience with assembling & setup find a luthier to do it.
Read their site, pay attention to the neck options and look in the showcase for ready to ship necks in a lower price.
