Delay Pedal and tap tempo question

Sorry, never used a delay pedal before, so if this is a stupid question - feel free to put me in my place!

We have a couple of songs in our set list that call for a a very simple 8th's on a single string bass line. The sort of thing keys should be playing, but we don't have keys. Think 'Common People'.

Could I use a delay pedal to play the first 8th and let the pedal fill in the rest of the bar? And if our drummer starts to speed up or slow down slighty (yes, it has been known), could I use the tap tempo pedal 'live' to keep the tempo in check? Yes, lazy I suppose - but my excuse is that I'm saving my fingers for later songs!

I'm think of a DD-7 with a Boss FS-5U or similar.

Thanks very much,
Chris

I find that you need to have a tight drummer & use tap tempo to get the same BPM as him, but if he deviates it can sound awful.
I use a Bass Murf with tap tempo & if he goes out of time, it takes a couple of bars to get back in sync as it's 3 taps for bpm.
