chrisd24 Posted June 23, 2011 Share Posted June 23, 2011 (edited) I recently purchased a vmj from a fellow basschatter who had applied a new waterslide decal on the headstock but it hasn't had a finish put on top of it, if i leave it as is i think the decal will in time get damaged and the rest of the headstock will discolour in a different way. Its a matt effect varnish and im guessing polyurethane but i dont know where to source such a thing, also any tips on application would be much appreciated! I may at some time refinish the neck on my Squier P/J - I don't really like satin finishes and would like a darker, glossy look - so this seemed like a good source. My fretless Fender Jazz has one and I've always like the look of it That pale look of many modern necks just isn't my cup of tea, unless the headstock is painted. Tried it and it worked a treat. The more coats at 15 mins intervals you put on the better it will look but apply very very lightly on each coat to prevent dribbling. If you wet sand with a very fine sand paper at the end it will look even better. .Make sure you have plenty of ventilation and spray in a dust free room.
